How can people be so into sports without money involved?

As a rational thinker, I've been saying this for years. I even get into arguments with people over it and I'm the one who's looked at as crazy and different just because i'm more rational.

And don't get me wrong I love sports, but I know some people who are glued to these leagues like a drug... and theres nothing on the line for them. The obsession to sports and players is what I am referring to with this thread.

I once asked a Yankee nut when they were going to pay for his mortgage, car note or even set up a fund for his kids college. Just for being a fanatic of them. With no money to be made.

I told him this because he was being sarcastic with me when I said I am only a fan of a team when I have money on them. So my team of choice is different everyday.

I still enjoy sports regardless if I have money on it or not. It is about enjoying the game itself and respecting the players and what they are able to do. Does that mean I am a "crazed fanatic"? I don't think so but I am not the one that would make that call.

Sports fans are like little children. I talked to some sports fans a while ago going to the game. They are all, are you going to the game, dressed in their hats and jerseys all stupid looking. I was like no, i'm going home (why pay money to see a fake sporting event, was what i was thinking). But i kinda wish i was that dumb and innocent/happy.
Sometimes i talk sports with fans, and it's wierd. A gambler talking to a fan... I just kinda don't want to bother them, because they pay into the city fund ultimately of whatever city they are fanning in. But i've noticed i always know more about any team, any sport, any player even. Which is cool, cuz i hate sports.

The only team I have interest in regardless of a wager is my hometown baseball team.

But I get what TSop is saying. I know several people who get their panties in a wad over many different teams and they would think it's completely ridiculous to make wagers on sports.

I saw about 5 Kentucky fans at a local sports bar on Friday afternoon. They all had UK stuff on head to toe. It was sort of comical to me because it wasn't like it was march madness or anything. They all these really serious looks on their faces and they reacted strongly to every turnover. And I'm 1000% sure they had no cash on the game.

The reason why guys like iwinyourmoney get into sports and watch it religiously is because he lives in a little farm hick town in the middle of nowhere (Similar to what I see in north carolina. These people all they talk about is college basketball all the fuking time. These small town people are chucked and don't live a very interesting life.)

I don't get along with sports fans very well. We are not compatible

They want to talk about how great their team is and how many games they've won, and I start spewing out their shitty ATS records at home & on the road, against top 25 off a bye, etc...and cant name a fukin player on their wonderful 11-2 team because as far as I'm concerned they are shit because they are 3-10 ATS!!!

They look at me like I just dropped from an alien starship & walk away
