Women along the route "love" UPS drivers.

JJ, this is brilliant. You will get laid several times this year.

Long hours requiring driving and carrying heavy objects. Ban use of iphones at the job so you have to resign from SBR to persue this job coach.

Is it because of the shorts they have to wear?

Is it because they know your a working stiff?

Is it because they have to be able lift 50 lbs?

Is it because they look good in brown?

Is it because they may know the geek in the commercials?

        ALL OF THE ABOVE?

Why do women dig UPS drivers?

Unless you know someone really important, you just don't become a driver at UPS. You work your way up to that, by unloading and sorting first.

It is probably a dead end job. You will not make any money doing it. You need to be in business for yourself...

UPS drivers make around $30 an hour...not bad considering the amount of knowledge required for the job.

But like someone said earlier, you don't start as a driver. It takes 5-10 years working part time as a loader, package handler, sorter, etc.

                    JJ.....

IT DOES NOT TAKE 5 YEARS TO BECOME A DRIVER. In fact, UPS is actively recruiting drivers as I type this. The training program lasts between 90-120 days for a new driver depending on locale and delivery route.

According to an article in Fortune Magazine that I am certain I still have somewhere...

On average, a UPS driver pulls down approximately 75K per year.

The job isn't as easy as just getting a truck and dropping off packages.

The quality aspect of UPS is what is making it difficult for UPS to fill their job numbers. Everything---from delivery time to gas used to mileage is charted, examined and reviewed on a hourly basis. If drivers use too much gas, don't use their mileage allocation efficiently, and don't make timely deliveries---they are not long for the job.

There is also opportunity for bonus money---if you perform within a quality index score, you can earn as much as 30K in annual bonuses.

JJ--if you get a chance here, take that job. You won't do better in this economy.

I was at UPS one time with my dad making a repair on the loading door. This UPS driver was responsible. It was very late in the day and just the driver, his manager and us were there. He was so afraid that he was going to get layed off for it. He was clearly a flaming homosexual so I think he was worried that he might be first to go in the bad economic climate and that this accident was going to be an excuse for UPS to can him. He kept asking me if I thought it was his fault lol. I felt bad for him but cause it really wasnt his fault, the timer on the door was set to like a minute and no one had told him of the adjustment, so it closed on his truck. I wonder if they canned him, he really cherished that job so it would be a shame if they did.

Martin Blank describes it well. There is intense supervision. I was a loader there years ago, and had to read every zip code of every package that came in and still build walls of packages in the trucks even when the packages were pouring in. They would routinely throw packages with bad zip codes on the belt to make sure I was reading them all (which was impossible).

At the time I enjoyed the physical challenge, but it's a job that you really have to be fully committed to almost like a sport because you have to be alert and hustling all the time--and even on your off days (notice I didn't say weekends) you couldn't unwind too much.

If you needed to take your mind off gambling, though, this would be a great job to have.

                                  And do tell.

What "business" opportunities exist for small business owners in this economy?

In case you haven't noticed, there is virtually no credit being extended to new businesses.

The credit market will be locked down as long as the Fed Interest rate remains at 0.00%.

Job creation isn't going to come from new businesses as it has so often in the last 60 years---it is going to come from larger companies expanding, as they are the only ones with the cash and credit to even warrant expansion in this economy.

You wouldn't be happy earning ~$75k from a large company who has the majority of the market share for the business they provide while earning every benefit imaginable?

You do use drugs, so perhaps it has altered your thinking.

You do not start out as a driver , there is a minimum 4 year wait. Most people start out loading trucks part time for a couple of years.

A friend of mind has driven for them over 25 years and he told me he started out making more loading trucks 25 years ago then they start people out now .

It also depends on what kind of route you have on how good the job is.

Worker there during college. Awesome pay and insurance for a college kid and only 3-4 hours busting ass. Walked out of there soaked every night.

I know 3 drivers and needing signatures they would rest the clipboard on their knee and the women would have to bend to sign. Could see right down a loose top. Only perks of the job as I could see.
