You get no credit for posts in the private zone. And if you have posts later moved to the private zone, they are subtracted from your total.

I knew that posts in The Private Zone didn't count towards post count but didn't know posts were subtracted if they are moved to The Private Zone.

Very true. It's incredibly frustrating waking up and finding ten posts off of your post count. Happens all too often though.
