I thought it was well done. I enjoyed it and it captured my attention the entire time. If you're a nit wit and nod off during movies, you will be completely lost. Overall 8 out of 10.

Well first of all there's a correlation between what his wife says to him after she kills the kids and the ending of the movie/last line.

        Do you remember?

She said she wanted to dress the kids up and pretend they were their dolls.

Then at the end he asked if it was better to live like a monster or die a good man.

Thoughts...it's open to interpretation but most I know think he just faked it in order to die.

However at the end they show the lighthouse, which we know didn't house any crazy science experiments...

One thing that has me confused, at the end.. Had he really been there a few years, or was it about a week and they were just trying to make him believe he was crazy?. I wasn't sure about that at all..

Saw it today...didn't like it, the end of the movie screwed everything. The viewers are led to believe that everything is "real" and in the end everything turns out to be just the Fantasy of a crazy dude. Was an entertaining movie after all, but far from a great one.

I told my girl about 20 minutes into the movie that, if at the end it was all a fantasy and he was really just a patient, I was gonna be very pissed.. But, while confusing, i was happy with the ending.. The way they played it out like he wasn't crazy, but the drugs and things they told him made him think he was just because he was questioning what was really happening there was a clever twist..

The twist is done so much better in the book, but it is a much harder task in a movie though.

Is the book named the same as the movie?. I didn't know there was a book it was based on.. I'd like to read it because books give so many more details that it may answer a few questions i have..

Why do they show the lighthouse in the end? What is the point of that? Also I could of sworn I heard some "machine" noises as well.

Yes it is written by Dennis Lehane the author that wrote "Gone Baby Gone" and "Mystic River."

It is by the same name.

Hugely disappointed in this movie. For one thing, it moved too slowly and was too long with terrible pacing... it wasn't especially creepy, or interesting, or ENGAGING. Even though I love these sorts of movies, in this one I just didn't give a crap and was waiting for it to end! The twist was cool, but come on, it was just all so preposterous.

Bottom line, tons of other movies have done this sort of material WAY better.

Just to toss out a few good flicks that have something in common w/ this:

                            Identity
                            Session 9
                            The Orphanage

I could go on and on w/ others. Those are quality films. This one was like a C in my book.

Thanks Smitch.. I'll have to check it out.. Was thinking about watching the movie again tomorrow to catch a few small things i may have missed the first time i watched.. The things that may have seemed small at the time, but may be important to answer some questions..

I thought the movie was great. I was worried that the trailers had given away too much of the plot but obviously that was not the case.

finally saw it last night, thought it was pretty good, but still was kinda disappointed, guess i had different expectations. i took it as at the end in the lighthouse, after he finds out it's all a radical role play event, he realizes that he knows the truth and can differ between what is real and what is not real thus proving that he is not insane but rather was caught up in that fantasy. then they return to that house and on the steps he acts normal and thinks and realizes that he can't get over what he did cause he loved his wife so much, thus when his doctor comes back he poses that monster/good man question, at which point he returns to the made up world of the role play and calls his doctor, hey partner.....i took it as deep down he knew exactly what was going on but simply can not face the fact he killed the one he loved, thus rather than think and regret what he did for the rest of his life, he chooses to "act insane/still living in his world" when he certainly isn't, in order to get the labotomy and finally forget about what he had done.
