why people think hurt locker is a surprise win?
they are slight favs at -130. avatar is +125. bunch of dumbasses. if the odds of them winning is at +300 or more, then it is a surprise.

Cuz the average view (and even some writers) pay more attention to public hype than true odds. By my calculation the only huge upset of the night was Best Adapted Screenplay (Precious over Up in the Air)

It's a suprise because hurt locker didn't make any f_ucking money, and no one saw the G_od damn film.

Avatar was seen by everyone and their mother...except me-- I spend all my $ on plays.

hurt locker made a profit, sure! like 13 milly. But that is chump change compared to avatar. Just saying.

I didn't play the oscars because well, it's f_ucking march madness man. c'mon.

Completely agree. The Oscars isn't like American Idol where America votes and anyone can win. Those odds told the whole story, especially with Jeff Bridges.

No, I think everyone was starting to know that the momentum and buzz had turned to Hurt Locker. I think the headline might have meant that it was a surprise that Hurt Locker ended up overtaking the momentum for Avatar. But as of recently, everyone knew Hurt Locker would win.

I guess we sort of knew almost all the winners!

I enjoyed the show and was happy for all the winners. Glad Avatar didn't win best picture, because even though the visuals were amazing, the story was too formulaic and too many characters were caricatures (evil military guy, greedy corporate guy, beneficent and wise elders on Pandora, etc.)

This was not a great year for movies. Lot of good ones, but nothing I totally loved.

Avatar and Hurt Locker are overrated. Up should have won.

Fukk Hurt Locker. I don't give a fukk about some hillbilly fukk who wastes his life trying to find ways to kill himself.

Hurt Locker was made on a budget of $11,000,000......Chump change compared to some of the other mega movies.

Never heard of it before this morning. Of course I haven't seen a movie in a theatre since ET.
