I take it that your bookie is outside of the US. Because in the US, there is no such thing as a "legal" bookie. Betting on sport is illegal in itself - unless you are in Vegas. Anyway, I wouldn't worry about the 9 months. The prison can't even keep the real bad guys in jail right now because the states are too broke to keep them in prison.

It is interesting that in California, if you are caught with 10 lbs of weed in the car, you only get 6 months max plus community service. Gambling can't be more illegal than weed can it?

Do they take other action besides horses?
