Look for these guys to fall off the map quicker than Bread, Robyn, and the whole 90210 posse. They won 92 games last year and made the playoffs but this year they will finish 4th in the NL West behind Arizona, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.
What's to Like: I like the 2 table-setters at the top of the lineup in C.Gonzalez and D.Fowler. They both have great speed and cover tons of ground in the spacious outfield in Colorado. You have to like Brad Hawpe, even though he struggled in the second half last year, he's still hit over 20 HR's and atleast .280 the last four years. T.Tulowitzki hit .297 with 32 HR's at short last year (adress later) and looks to be getting better, if thats possible.
U.Jimenez is their ace and its looking like he is on his way to stardom. He was dominant at times and one of the main reasons the Rockies made the Playoffs. J.Francis is coming back from surgery and might fill the 5th spot in the rotation. He won 17 games in '07 and anything close to that could give the Rockies a huge boost. A. Cook is a solid #2 starter mainly because he keeps the ball on the ground with his sinker at Coors field.
What's not to Like: I really dont like their firstbase situation.. They have 2 former steroid abusers looking to cash a few checks before they retire. Giambi will pinch hit and spell Helton when he needs a rest but for the most part he is done. Helton can still hit for a high average but is no longer able to hit HR's anymore because he is off the juice and doesnt want to tarnish his legacy. I.Stewart hit .228 last year at third.. Thats bad, and what makes it worse is they have a third baseman that hit .297 with 32 homeruns last year, his name is Tulowitzki. I cant stand these A-Rod type shortstops on teams with first baseman that 15 HR's and third baseman that hit .228!! It is not a coinsidence that Arod won a title shortly after moving to third. The steriod era is coming to an end Rockies, move him to third, get yourselves a shortstop that can field and bench I. Stewart. Its that simple.
I think the Rockies rotation is in for rude awakening, Jimenez is good, but is he over rated? I think so. De la Rosa had a nice year but Im thinking he'll struggle again at home and fall back to earth this year. I really dont like Hammel, his stuff is below average and he pitches to contact, which is not the best way to pitch in Colorado.
H.Street is over rated, plain and simple..I think he only had like 2 blown saves last year which had to be total luck. He will blow 8-10 this year and people will see how "good" he really is. M. Corpas will never be as good as he once was and no one else in the pen jumps out at you. Not really liking this bullpen.
Recap: If you are a professional gambler like the Great Fishhead and have money lying around, put some of it on Under 84.5 Wins -120 for the Coorado Rockies. You can thank the King later.
