Why were these square plays? The vastly superior teams dominated as they were supposed to.

Not sure if serious? Everything about what that sentence says bet the Cardinals. Im with Kermit. I knew the Seahawks were going to kick the shit out of their opponent today so I bet the opposite?

He was saying the line was fishy, that it should have been much higher than -3.5. Many times in these situations the dog covers or wins, following the theory that Vegas knows what is going to happen and is setting a trap for square bettors who see that juicy -3.5.
Many bettors will take the other side in these situations. These bettors regard themselves as sharps. However, it just isn't that easy.
A sharp is going to bet where he sees an edge. If sharps calculated Cardinals can cover this number they would bet it regardless of whether Vegas is trying to set a trap or not.

I've learned this lesson far too many times this season than I care to admit

A sharp isn't someone who just takes the contrarian side to the public's lean. As you said, there is much more to it.
This late in the season, the dominant teams tend to pull away from the mediocre ones. Cin (-4.5), Ari (-3.5), and Sea (-14.5) were gifts. I'll admit, I passed on the PHI/ARI game fearing getting caught on the hook, but I should have known better.

Pavy, and Albabbie, yes, I agree. But there are many who think contrarian = sharp, especially here.
Albabbie--good point about the more dominant teams, but I worry that these teams are prone to drop a game when they don't need the win. This and the fishy looking line caused me to stay away from AZ/Philly yesterday.

Well said. Players, especially the wanna-be's in here, should not try to outguess Vegas, especially since none of them have the foggiest idea about how Vegas works. Sharps make money when they see a wager that is advantageous to them, no matter what Vegas does. What you clowns have to do is to try and figure out who actually has the better team, something that few of you can do. This is why few of you actually wager real money on these games and of the few that do, 85% or so lose over the season.

Yeah, I was concerned with Zona's motivation, but given their coach is Bruce Arians and he seems to always play to win and with aggression, I felt okay betting them. This won't be the case with other "dominant teams" these last couple weeks.
For example, even up 37-17 he was still throwing the ball late in the 4th. Backdoor covers are less of a problem with this team.
