HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF)- Roulette is a game of chance, and a teen from Russia has taken that game's concept and turned it into a cyber way to chat with other people.
It's called Chat Roulette, and all you have to do is sit back, and let the website be your dealer.
It's not just any ordinary chat room but one where chance meets adventure-- thrust into the living rooms of people half way around the world.
Chat roulette is a gamble, but a whole lot of fun.
We had to check it out for ourselves, so we logged in from my computer in my living room.
Soon we found ourselves in the living rooms of those in India, Turkey, China, and got a brief glimpse into their world.
Sometimes it's anonymous, some times you might glimpse part of a concert, and other times it could get a little X-rated.
Branden Cripps has played chat roulette with friends.
"You're kind of detached from it because you don't have to say anything or do anything-- just kind of are there to enjoy it or there to have a good time," said Cripps.
He said it can be innocent fun, but it does sometime pose a risk.
"There were people on there looking for something that we weren't offering," hinted Cripps
There's no pit boss over this game to keep someone from playing dirty, so it's up to you to hit "next" and look for another stranger.
That's exactly why Melanie Langford is concerned for her own son.
"He's 15 and there are a lot of things out there he's probably not prepared to face alone," she said.
The creator, who's a teenager from Russia, told the New York Times he created it for him, and his friends. He also said the website gets around 20,000 hits every night.
