new player needs advice

Hey everyone,

New to the forum and betting in general. Got interested in hitting the parlays and actually got a few of them made a couple hundred and then pretty much blew it all getting greedy. Was just wondering if anyone could give me advice on how to play a little better. My picks are actually pretty good in my notebook and I usually just miss my parlays by 1 or 2. Any advice would be awesome. Thanks

1. find a solid book 2. never play more than 3 games per night and 3. don't do parlays

yes no parleys.... i mean i do them from time to time but only to round off uneven numbers in a account nothing serious......bet that shit str8

parlay rules are as follows:

#1. if it's a 2 teamer you won't play it because the 3 teamer pays a heck of a lot more and you feel really good about game #3.
#2. if it's a 3 teamer you will hit 2
#3. if it's a 4 teamer you will hit 3
#4. if it's a 5 teamer you will hit 4

*rule #1 applies to all parlays not just a 2 teamer*

Yep, I agree with this sentiment. If you make parlays a large part of your wagering menu, you'll realize how hard it is to keep your head above water. Make parlays and teasers the exception, not the rule.

As others have said, I'd stay away from parlays. Just going from what you said, you don't seem to hit them very often..stick to what you're good at, making straight bets.

Who am I to talk you off a certain betting style.. when I first started off, I loved parlays. You will evolve as a gambler and move away from them eventually. In the meantime, there are books out there that pay for "almost" parlays.. meaning if you hit 4 of 5, you still get some sort of payout.

if your parlays usually miss by 1 or 2 teams , you would probably make a killing betting your selections straight

If you are going to play parlays, which I recommend not doing, always leave your last game a few hours behind the rest of your games as to allow yourself the chance to hedge your bet should you hit all aft your early plays.

thanks for all the tips guys. Gonna mess around with a few different ideas. I started a rollover tonight just for fun. Put 20 on Wizards by -1.5. Will see if I can have some fun with this. The rest of my bets for now on will be straight though. Lost too much money chasing thousand dollar 7-8 bet parlays.

Don't parlay 10 teams. Parlay at least 5 teams and play it smart. Every time I play 10 team parlay I lose because of 1 team 90% percent of the time. Also don't think that if someone is -230 for a money line they going to win an example of this was Texas vs Kentucky NCAA men basketball I was sure that Kentucky was going to win the game for sure and they did and didn't understand why Texas was -230. Also some team play better against other teams due to match up or some other reason and they record doesn't show them as great.

I love betting 2 teamers (like side and total in one half). Also my local has almost parlays that are interesting
