a proposal to improve SBR points reward, fight against spam, and increase loyalty

I have a suggestion about SBR points. From what I've read, SBR give 15 points every 50 posts mark before, but it make this forum become a spam city, and then the rule change to give 25 points for 1000 posts mark. But this have a pros and negs. Only few very active posters could benefit from this new rule. And most of all, spent our time at SBR reading those posts rather than posting itself. Long story short, raising the quantity but decrease the quality.

Here are my suggestion, first just remove that 25 points award for 1000 posts mark.

"Then what should we give to our members?"

In cyber world, the hardest thing to get is loyalty. In my opinion, giving points for quantity posts only make it more difficult for us members to find information that we need, too much spam posts or posts that is more acceptable at "chat room" than forum it self. So I have 2 things :

1. SBR should have chat room where members can talk whatever they want that is not suitable in any sub forum or even at Players Talk.
2. Let's give more to Loyalty it self. What if we make a points reward for consecutive login. For example, if member do 30 days consecutive login to SBR they get 5 reward points. If members do 90 days consecutive days login they get 15 reward points and so on until we set the maximum. For example again, if members do 1 YEAR consecutive login they get 100 reward points plus a symbol or a different color username which indicates that this member is a Super Loyal member (something like VIP)

I said this, because I also run website, it's easy to gain traffic or new user to visit our website or forum, but what makes it hard is how to keep these peoples stay comfortable at our website not only for 1 day but more than that.

Okay that's it, just my two cents, I'm new here, but I do support SBR.

screw that i should get double every thousand and even a 500 kickback as 80+% of my post are quality not like most the bs ppl post just to get more post, plus it doesnt matter if i get points as im just giving them right back in the casino anyway but i could always use more to play with

Stupid idea. Chat doesn't pay the bills. Sponsors will be pissed if they pay for chat instead of unique views. Also chat promotes forum bookies and betting syndicates which can bankrupt the book since the book is slow to steam moves and line changes.

I don't know why today I have a bunch of ideas about SBR points. Here I have one more idea, right now member got 2 points each day for login. What if we offer member 3 points for each day after that member collect a consecutive day log in for example 90 days.

That bring 2 good points as I thought. First, SBR get a guaranteed daily traffic each day which mean higher advertising price. Second, members feel SBR like home, I mean members open SBR daily like they checking email each time they connect to internet.

For example, a member with more than 4 months consecutive daily login for sure won't miss out a day if they want a higher title (I suggest we created a new title like different color of username or badge under avatar or else) and higher point reward.

The conclusion is I tried to giving a solustion which can increased daily traffic, which mean higher advertising revenue, which mean more reward for members it self like more contests. more random prized, and more.

Actually SBR chat is on the board to be expanded in time for football. As I remember it will be similiar to AOL chat rooms whereby it will be limited to 20 and then spill into a new chatroom for a max of 10. Chat is a great idea and Pavy it can pay the bills as well. But it only makes sense if critical mass is there. We have some work to do there.

theres already a chatroom on here. not sure what you liked about this guys post john except for the idea of handing out less points and the commonly shared and frequently expressed sentiment that we should get rid of the spam.

like pavy was saying, these suggestions are bad for our sponsors and for hits and page views. players talk has a google page ranking of 3 and sbr's homepage has a google page ranking of 4- these are good numbers for such a niche site. there are plenty of sites who would pay just for a link from a site with these stats and many more who already pay per click for traffic to flow to their sites through unnatural means in the way that this filth-mongering on players talk benefits the number of contributions and clicks.

all the keywords that show up via the forum improve search engine optomization of the site and gradually increase the page ranking. Having people click back and forth from each thread to the main players talk page, adding their comments and questions accomplishes this same task and is a good way to generate traffic. And on a more human level, this pt Junk is somewhat addictive. you should definitely be trying to bring more people to your affiliate banners.

sbrjohn, i dont think you could respond favorably to this even if you wanted to because it would seem like youre more about the business aspect of things as opposed to getting the spam junkies off the streets. And i really doubt that most sbrnoobs are qualified to testify as to what keeps people here on sbr.

Onizuka, while i appreciate your suggestions, maybe the reason you are having trouble finding information on this site is that you have only been here for a week and are not great at navigating it yet. Players talk is basically for junk and general discussion....there is plenty of solid sports talk, discussion and analysis on the individual sports' subforums and lots of valuable information at sbrodds.com....also i would tell you friend- to improve your own website and your suggestions here- encouraging "visitors, hits and page views" automatically increases daily traffic and encouraging daily visits does not automatically have a positive effect on page views or hits in terms of a helpful site like this that has boatloads of unique visitors already. you should research brad callen if you'd like to raise your own websites page ranking above zero and improve its search engine optomization- it helped me a lot when i ran my website.

logging in is Not adding to the site- its logging in. a monkey can do that. consequtive days logging in is an idea to be added to what we already have- but its not a solution or replacement for anything. i have a feeling this post is longer than originally intended

Glitch I appreciate your business knowledge and the level of your discussion. Your post drifts into some areas I'm either not qualified to talk about or would rather not.

I am not for handing out less points at all! I’m for handing out ten times the current amount or more. But eventually the end game will be to only give points to those who support the site. With what you already wrote I think you can fill in the missing blanks how that might work. But for now we are happy with the free for all and just making minor adjustments to mitigate complications such as the Power Posters.

As far as chat, if you think about it, a really great forum is only minimally scaleable. It losses its feel if it grows too large too fast. We want to hold on to the feel of the forum as it is now as long as possible. Directing the massive ingame type threads into chat will greatly help. I think.
