#3Fishhead, seriously get a clue bud.
2010 Populations:
USA.........309 million
Canada.....34 million
Since the US has 10 times the population, shouldnt they be getting 10 times the medals??
I know your reply is going to be "well they have the same amount of Olympic athletes". Well yes, this is true, but the difference is the US has 10 times the people to choose from. Who compares medal counts from US and Canada with such a discrepancy in population???Comment -

NO, what I would say is the USA has thousands and thousands of athletes that play other sports besides those on ice and snow.............if they didn't, the USA would really dominate the winter olympics.
Like was mentioned, the USA is dominating CANADA on their home turf, at their own game.Comment -

#8Originally posted by Irish Lumberjackconsidering there is a limit on the number of athletes any nation can take to the games your point loses all factual basis. Now if you were allowed to bring as many as you wanted you may have a point there. But they can't, so you don't.
although I will say, by in large when it comes to winter sports stuff, you pretty much have to eliminate 2/3 of the us population from the majority of these sports. not many so cal, texas, or florida kids are taking up bobsledding, cross country skiing, ect....
so I think despite the US having a larger population and talent pool to find these elite athletes, the interesting part is that we are beating many colder climate nations at their own bread and butter gamesComment -

That's not true........
MEDALS first.........GOLDS second
For a country to have the most in either category is a victory, agree with that.
Canada can salvage themselves and save face if they do ONE of TWO things(and they may accomplish both).......and that is win the HOCKEY GOLD and/or win the most GOLD MEDALS at these games.
If they do one of the two, they will have saved face, if they accomlish both, they will have did themselves extremely proud.Comment -

#12You know how easy it is to become a Canadian citizen?
1. Live there for 3 years out of the last 4.
2. Know and understand either English or French.
3. Have general knowledge about Canada (geography, culture, etc) and pass a written test.

It doesn't get the attention as college football or basketball, which is understandable. Go see a top #10 team play, and tell me its not competitive.Comment -

To think because its held in Canada this that they would finish 1st orverall is foolish, off the top of your head you can't name the last home conrty to lead the medal count,
2006 Torino, Italy place 9th overall
2002 Salt Lake, US finished 3rd overall
!998 Nagano, Japan finished 7th overallComment -

#17Only gold medels matter imo. That's what you are betting at. USA OU 9.5 looking like an under. Canada OU 8.5 looking like a over. Canada > USA in the olympics.Comment -
