Yeah they were underdogs and Canada breathes hockey, but isnt this still the early rounds?

Canada will still reach the quarterfinals or whatever, whats the big deal they are making this win to be?

I don't find it to be that big of an upset, both clubs are made up of NHLers, its not like when the college kids did it against the pros from Russia.

Maybe a confidence builder? Agree with Iceminers above.

Because the Canadians were so highly favored on their home ice to just roll over everyone. Plus, the USA has one of the most inexperienced Olympic teams, with only 3 guys playing in previous Olympics. The pride factor for beating those fuks to the North as well.

it was a meaningless game, it is like a college team losing before the tournament, well this tournament just starts this week, it is one and done, hockey is awesome in this format, not a big fan of best of seven just to get out of the first freakin round extend the regular season by 15 games and then have a tournament , the NHL wants ratings they will get like never before

extending the regular season will allow the teams to have to the revenues they need , get rid of the pre season to make it easier on the players legs ,

So playing Russia in the 1/4s instead of Switzerland/Belarus is no big deal?

Canada lost in the last Olympics in Turin. This is canada's dream team. It's not over yet.

after the match that sports reporter chick was talkin about how heavily favored they were but really the usa squad was 1.5 point dogs...thats the kinda puckline/spread we see SU upsets on all the time.

id say its more a big deal for can than for us.

No offense, but that is the dumbest comment I have heard in quite some time.

They play best of 7 because they battle through an 82 game schedule to earn the position they get and anything can happen in a 1 game format, so they play best of 7 so the winner actually earns their spot in the next round. We are not talking about basketball, this is hockey where the puck could bounce any which way one night and an 8 seed could beat a 1 seed and in your proposed format, the 1 seed would get ****ed for all their hard work through the regular season.

Not a big win at all, lets have a fukkin parade now. Unreal media trying to hype this event. Pros against Pros not a big deal, good win for USA but not shocking.

USA earns a bye into the Quarterfinals - Canada plays Germany to get into the Quarterfinals - Both teams are still alive. USA also gets better seeding in the Quarters playing the winner of Switzerland vs Belarus to get into the medal round (round of 4). While if (really when) CAnada beats Germany they will then have to face Russia to get into the medal round.
