I wanna know this as well, probably was like USSR -4800 because they were professionals against a bunch of amateurs.

After looking even more I don't think there was a line for this. But i did see this written in one other forum:
Russia had won every Olympic gold medal from 1956-80. They had the best goalie, best right winger, and best defensemen in the world. They were so good they beat the NHL All-Stars 6-0, and went 5-3-1 against NHL squads in exhibition. Russia played Brooks's team shortly before the tournament, and they sonned 'em 10-3. There's a reason it's known as the GOAT upset.
Im starting to think its such an upset it rivals tyson loss to buster. Heres my new line:
USSR -7.5
USSR -6000
(7.5 goals in a hockey game is like 85 points in a football game imo)

I think your a tad high.............I make USSR -2000........HERB BROOKS in his pregame speech stated that they would lose 9 out of 10 times to this team and I think he was being slightly nice about it.
USSR -2000
USA +1850

The moneyline has to be more like-9000 or it possibly could have hit 5 digits. There was no way USA should have won that game considering even USA players said they would have lost 99 out of 100 games

i think you are way low. USA only had very few players that ended up in the NHL, neverming any experience at that point. So you are talking player ratings. (IE crosby is 96, Parise is an 88, low end NHL player is a 72) Then you would have to say the russian average was like 85, and the USA was like 63. Thats like a solid NHL team vs a good college team. This might have been 5 digits like mini just said

I highly doubt the greatest upset of all time as it has been described would only warrant a -2000 moneyline but what do I know ... I was not alive

You got to think of the value of the dollar back then, inflation, ect.
But with this being so huge of an upset, I think the ML on ussr was around -7500

Ya i think somewhere between 50:1 and 100:1 longshots. It was men against boys. Literally a top NHL team vs a college team. Like say the Penguins in a match up with Boston College in a game that meant a lot to the entire hockey world. Pens would win like 12-1

very true ... a dynasty like that of the Soviets back then is unparalleled to any that we see today in really any sport .. besides maybe the Trinity squash team haha
