    no gambling for Lent
I've decided to stop gambling and give up unhealthy food for Lent. I need a break and the timing is good. I'll miss March Madness but I will be good to go with baseball. I've done this once before this it nothing new, yet it will be a test! On exception is I have qualified for an Expressbet finals involving horse racing.I will allow myself that grace. Its only 45 days and I have other vices to fall into if need be. I know I'm going to get itchy in about a week or so. Will I be able to go the distance?

I couldn't decide what to give up for Lent. Then I decided to give up religion. Now I don't have to give up anything for Lent.

It goes back in time and varies according to various beliefs. Google Lent and take it from there. Its a way of developing discipline. And yes I can hedge on Sunday's if I choose to as some will say Sunday's are not part of Lent.
I have betting sports almost daily since October. I've hit a cold stretch and need to regroup and gather my gambling mojo. Off my history I usually do well after a lay=up.
No plans to hedge at this point.
First week in April you have Passover, then Good Friday and Easter. Now thats a trifecta!

4 days no bets but it has not been pretty! Stayed medicated, ate {healthy food of course but way to much} and slept most of the weekend. Bad cravings to play the horses or go to the casino. I can feel some withdrawal pains. Basically all I've done is change "Seats on the Titanic". That is method of dealing with this. With the new week beginning ,its structure will make this easier till next weekend. Weight 274.3

12 days no bets. I'm using the avoidance tactic. Not watching baskets or espn. Don't miss it either. One month to go. If I can make it pass March I'll be solid. The weight loss is failing at this point. May have bit off more than I can chew by trying too much. Weight 275.1

Thanks JJ. I want to do this. That's half the battle. I get urges to go to off track on weekends thats the worst part so far. march madness is easier to give up than baseball futures for me. I just won't watch it. There is a few co workers that are going this also, mostly drinking and smoking. So I don't want to be the first to crack. One month to go. just one month to go.

19 Days No bets. Weight 271.8. I've arrived to a fork in the road. The urge to gamble is so strong that this Lent thing isn't going to cut it. So from this day forward I choose to use Lent only for the dieting aspect. For the non gambling sacrifices I am making, I offer them up {or down as the case may be } to the Roman God Pluto until the arrival of Springtime. [March 21st]. As in Roman times they had festivals with games that brought honor to various Roman Gods. I grant myself the privilege of participating in those games on March 13th {saturn's day in those times}. I seek the favor of the Goddess Juno and hope to catch the eye of Numeria {roman godess of numbers}.
Talk about dealing with the devil. This oath should assist me through March madness. Some of my future bets have won and now a bet is a key stroke away.
This past week was a struggle. This is not fun. I switched with a co-worker so I worked Saturday to avoid the temptation to gamble. Very little t.v and no sports talk radio. Its said you need 21 days to break any addiction. I reach that point soon.
                                      It it April yet?

I went 24 days without a bet. On March 13 I emptied my one funded off shore account with baseball futures bets at 12:03 a.m. It felt good to feed that part of my being. It took about three minutes to go through $350.00 worth of action. I will have to wait till October for those results. With the account drained there would be no temptation to get involved with march madness. The only other wagers involved an online horse racing handicapping tournament. I said from the very beginning this was an opportunity I could not afford to pass up. The end results were very positive. I picked seven winners out of the eight contest races. That earned me a free seat in a major Vegas contest next year plus $500.00 for travel expenses. In addition a free roll into another on line contest in April. Maybe this Roman God's idea has something to it.
The new # for non gambling days is eight. For the time being I'm just going to believe in me. No Lent, No Roman Gods. I have the will power to finish the next too weeks free of gambling. Period. End of Story. The urges are less. I don't miss wagering on March madness.
Weight 272.6 I'm going to try to improve that # with my next post.

The best answer to the absurdity of "Lent" and religion.

As if god, if he even exists, gives a flying fuk if you don't eat ice cream for 40 days while more than half the people he "loves" around the world are suffering.

15 days of no bets since 3/13. I 'm in the home stretch. Can't wait to be free of this experiment. There were three of us at the start. A drinker, a smoker and a gambler. The smoker didn't make it. Thats probably the toughest addiction of all. In any event the only March madness I'll remember this year was not betting on it. Think you can't stop gambling. Well I have... 39 out of the past 40 days. Just get in the proper mind set and make it happen. Weight 272.4.

With sunset on the west coast my obligation to this thread ends. The drinker asked me the other day if I'd gone this far and it was rewarding to answer yes. His test was on St. Patrick's Day so I asked and he said he'd gone the distance to that point.
I will soon start wagering to get my mo-jo working again. I passed the gambling test but the weight issue remains. Weight 275.1. Time to redirect this discipline towards that area.
