It depends. First, you have to pay protection to even think about starting a business like that. Then, you have to have enough cash to lay off certain wagers on off shore sports books. While you will eventually get your money back, you can only withdraw so much. Next, you have to have enough muscle to get dead beats to pay you. Next, you have to have a territory. Muscling in on someone elses territory is a guarantee that you will find out just how good your health insurance is. You had better have some local connections also. Most of the guys I know in the business have 250K available to them at all times.
