This is one of the worst lists I've ever seen. Also, it's Seinfeld.

Love the Sopranos but the best show now is "Rescue Me". It stars Dennis Leary and the new season will air later this year on FX. Check it out - GREAT show!
Rescue Me became a farce at the end of season 4 when everyone started sleeping with everyone else. Felt like I was watching Desperate Housewives. I have yet to watch any episodes from season 5, but I hear good things.

I'll be honest here, I watched one episode of the Soprano's a while back, hated it and haven't watched in since. Nothing special IMO.
I was like you, didn't get it, thought it was slow and kind of pretentious, but it really is quite impressive when you give it some time.

Arrested Development is the best show ever. The Sopranos is a close second.
Arrested Development was another show that jumped the shark and then did another season for the money.
Curb Your Enthusiasm
The Wire
South Park
Sopranos
Futurama
Honourable mentions to the following:
Band of Brothers
Six Feet Under
Mad Men
Scrubs
The Colbert Report
The Office UK and US
Battlestar Gallactica
Rescue Me
Extras
Batman The Animated Series
X-Men The Animated Series
A truly underrated show. Its social commentary was right up there with South Park, except in a nostalgic sense, which made it more hilarious. I mean, how shows with no relevance to society (Dexter) or shows that are supposed to be funny but aren't clever (Family Guy) are preferred over South Park and Futurama reminds me how stupid the general populace is.
But yeah, that's why it's fifth. I'd just as easily throw Six Feet Under or Battlestar Gallactica up there. The thing is with The Wire, it wasn't really a "show" to me. I mean, it didn't have a very long run. It was almost like a movie with sequels. Same for Band of Brothers.
