When the owners of the Sonics were moving the team to Oklahoma City, I remember hearing that the league was trying to focus on medium-sized markets. If that's actually true, and not just some bullshit excuse to move the team, the league really is stupid. Medium markets mean less people, which means it's harder to sell tickets, less merchandise gets sold, ad revenue won't be as high, etc.

No. Medium sized markets is another way of saying they want to minimize the competition with the other sports leagues... For example, the Rose Garden is always packed for Blazers games, cause they're the only show in town. The Jazz also have a solid fan base because there's nothing else in Salt Lake City..

I despise the NBA and was hoping the league would fold after the Donaghy scandal.

I would estimate that at least 90% of NBA players would be in jail if it wasn't for basketball (seems like that many are going to wind up in jail anyways).

When you have so many low quality individuals making up a sport, the product will sooner or later deterioriate and that is what's happening with the NBA.

Baseball and Football will always be light years more popular than the NBA because the NBA is made up of TRASH (with a few exceptions sprinkled in).
