I remember seeing this live on HBO, was a saturday night, 1990, had gone to eat at the original Gino's East in Chicago, came home and was just stunned like everyone else.

Tyson never won a significant match after this day.

I was 15 and remember my dad and I watching it and being absolutely stunned. I'm a huge Tyson fan. Still play Tysons Punchout from time to time.

Tyson was in Japan and by all accounts, spent all his time banging Japanese girls and partying. At the time, he felt invincible and wasn't even training. He had new cornermen and if you watch the fight, they were clueless. They didn't even bring "endswell" to the fight. That's probably the first and last that that will ever happen in a championship fight. His corner was retarded. Endswell is a must have in professional boxing, it controls your swelling and bruising during a fight. If you watch the video, his clownish corner had a 5 finger latex medical glove filled with ice and tied off at the end, they were using this to ice his face. Almost hard to believe.

A lot of books wouldn't even take bets for the fight.

I think it was All Star weekend (The dunk contest to be exact) going on too. I was sick after that fight. I didn't even go to school on Monday. Tyson was my boy. That's some history right there man. I know exactly where I was.

That was my first time watching that shit since then. But I still think that ref was in on the fix. He started the count at 2 when it should of been at four for Douglas. And Tyson got up before ten. But whatever, A lot of people got paid on that shit.

Tyson was doomed after Cus D'Amato passed away. Cus was like his dad, and once he was gone, Tyson was a ship lost at sea.

Quite a shame, too, because Tyson could have been one of the best in history if he just could've harnessed all the fury that raged in his heart. I still have a soft spot for him, even though he has been nothing but a clown for over a decade.

So Tommy Hearns and Joe Frazier will remain my favorite boxers in my lifetime. And now the sport itself is practically dead. MMA has taken over and there's no looking back.

I was in a bar in the west side of San Antonio playing pool. The fight was on but most were not paying attention until about the 5th round. Then wow, what a great back and forth fight.
