There's nothing wrong with being small time. This is a hobby for some & income for others. I don't know of a hobby that pays well and doesn't cost alot of money. When you decide to quit making it a hobby is when you are big time no matter how much you play. If you are making money of any kind you're big time because if you are making money you are doing better than 80% of the people in this racket

I agree with the general notion, but it can be a very costly hobby to some.

You just have to know what you can afford to lose. I moved into a new townhouse in the past few weeks and bottomed out one of my sportsbook accounts right before. Could have reloaded and put myself in a bind, but you gotta be realisitic and pay your bills and take care of real life first. Been two weeks without real money betting, but I've been getting pounding in the SBR book this last week after a good couple days ... so all in all, taking care of real life saved me real money.

That's kinda what I meant. It can be an expensive hobby? Well then quit treating it like a hobby! Hobbies are supposed to be fun & relaxing although can be expensive. I've never seen anyone spend money on gambling & have fun & be relaxed. So unless you are going to do it seriously & not treat it like a hobby go spend a grand on a R/C car or a couple grand on some table saws & take up woodworking.

I think the pointsbook is alot of fun. Get a thousand points real quick & you can get some $50 freeplays, some t shirts & hats, it's nice. What pisses me off worse than anything is people who come on here after a couple weeks & want to borrow enough points to get something from the store. That's amusing! Kids these days don't wanna work for anything even when there's no real work involved. This is a sports handicapping forum & they wont do that to get some points.

In the last five years of my life I have spent $50,000 on comic book investing and $50,000 on gambling.
The comic books are still worth about $50,000, and if the economy recovers their value will grow as the collectibles market recovers.
The $50,000 on gambling is gone. Well not actually gone. I'm still paying the bills on that.
I was big time a year ago. I am small time now. Lessons learned. Hard knocks. Dues paid. Maturity earned. Wiser than yesterday.
Someday I hope to be a big-time gambler again. If that doesn't work out, at least I'll still have the comic books.

No, Ace, I am one of the top 100 collectors of underground comic books in the world. Not to shine my ass too bright, but I am a consultant on Fogel's Underground Price Guide and possess a high-grade collection of underground comics that will provide for my retirement. The 99 collectors above me are definitely above me: they have collections ranging in value from $150,000 to several million. But I know my shit and I will be chasing them down in the next decade.
I know all types of comics and Silver Surfer is certainly a very collectible title. The future of comic book collecting is all about the high-grade comic books (comics that look like new even if they are 50 years old). Baseball card collecting is also still alive at the highest level, but I would have to say that comic books (because of movies like Batman and Spider-Man) are a better investment opportunity in the next 50 years.
Underground comics, which are all about sex, drugs, rock music and counter-culture revolution, are a fascinating and profitable niche of the larger comic book collecting industry.

Just google it, Ace. They were published in the 1960s and '70s and if you are into sex, drugs and/or social revolution they are an early blueprint for today's counterculture (which gamblers, by definition, are a part of).

I guess you need to clarify what is small time? what is big time. Someone was surprised that I would make a 1K offer at matchbook. I don't think betting 1K on a game makes you big time. If I was betting 10K that would be big time. Obviously betting 10 to 200 dollars is strictly recreational and should be treated nothing more than that. BTW I bet 100 on NBA totals because I suck at them but like the action. My NBA and NFL plays come in over 1K a play. Props would be more except the limits on them are small so I'm lucky to get anything over 200 on them any given game.

I read the Wiki about the style of those types of books. Can't say i fit into that weird type of genre, but hey, if its worth heaps and you have it, then collect it and reap the rewards in years to come. Zap and Fritz the Cat, its certainly something different.
