Super Bowl a $7 Million Win for Nevada Sports Book Operations
    By Nancy Kercheval

Feb. 10 (Bloomberg) -- Nevada’s sports book operations won almost $6.9 million on wagers of $82.7 million on the Super Bowl when the underdog New Orleans Saints beat the Indianapolis Colts.

The state’s 182 sports books had “a win percentage of 8.3 percent,” said Dennis Neilander, chairman of the Nevada Gaming Control Board.

The Saints scored a 31-17 win over the Colts, who were five-point favorites in the National Football League championship game, according to Las Vegas oddsmakers.

The 2005 Super Bowl, in which New England beat Philadelphia 24-21, attracted $90.7 million in wagers to give the sports books a win percentage of 17 percent, or $15.4 million in winnings.

The Pittsburgh-Seattle game in 2006 generated the most interest from gamblers with $94.5 million wagered for an $8.8 million win with the Steelers’ 21-10 victory.

The house doesn’t always win. In 2008, when the New York Giants beat the New England Patriots 17-14, the sports books lost almost $2.6 million on $92 million bet.
