I own a trim carpentry biz and my pockets have been alot lighter the last couple years.
however, I'm still not doing jobs for rock bottom prices like most of the so called contractors out there.
I've had potential customers ask me dozens of times the last yr if I could do a job for XXXX amount b/c they know contractors are hurting.
BS, its an insult and they can all kiss my ass. I can sit at home and lose money rather than working at it.
when my workers comp, general liabilty, and all other business expenses drop in price is when my prices will drop.
I'll let the other hacks work there way out of business and in debt.
meanwhile I'll work on profitable jobs and bide my time until the market turns around.

A lot of homeowner's aren't aware of the risk they hire these guys.

most homeowners dont understand the risk involved with using these guys though, and when the job gets fvcked up, or they run off with the deposit theres no recourse for the homeowner.
I've had to go behind fly-by-night guys and fix the mess they created. and it ends up costing the HO twice what they could have paid a legit biz if not more to straighten it out.

If you want it done right, you call a legit and reputable contractor. You'll probably pay a little more, but it will be less stress and hassle in the end, and you'll get quality work, which is what really matters. If these people only had half a clue of the risk they're taking, they'd never do it. Oh well though. In the long run those aren't the customers you want anyway.
