    Milwaukee Brewers new statue?
The Milwaukee Brewers announced today that the franchise is erecting a statue of baseball commissioner Bud Selig outside Miller Park and will unveil it on August 24. The commissioner is the former long-time owner of the team. Following the unveiling ceremony, the statue is expected to be urinated upon by everyone who is not a Brewers fan, as well as many people who are. "We can't stop that," said team vice president Gord Ash. "Although we will ask that fans respectfully refrain from defecating on it."

I'm a Brewer fan and I live in Wisconsin...the only reason this is being done is because he brought them here, and then helped get Miller Park built.
That being said. I hate this tool bag. Not only did he turn a blind eye to the steroid use he knew was going on, he left his inept daughter in charge of the Brewers for 10 years and all but ruined the team. Am I greatful he brought baseball back to Milwaukee?? Yes...do I love Miller Park??Yes, great stadium!!!! Do I like Selig??? Despise the guy.
Make of it what you wish, but this just allows me the chance to spit on the guy whenever I want.

Correction, infamousbacardi. He stole them from Seattle and then fenced his stolen goods to the good people of Milwaukee.

What's the fine for urinating in public in Milwaukee, anyone know? Thinking it might be worth it. I wish Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Mark McGwire and Rafael Palmeiro long, happy lifes. I wish painful, slow deaths upon Donald Fehr, Scott Boras and Osama bud Selig.

Willie, you might enjoy this quite contentious interview of Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel by someone who shares your opinion of Selig, KNBR talk show host Ralph Barbieri, concerning the new statue:

As a Milwaukee resident I love Bud for bringing baseball back but hate the fact that at the end he didn't care about fiedling a winning team anymore. Long live Mark Attanasio.

Thanks for the link, smitch. Good to hear someone throw responsibility into the lap of Fehr and the union as well as the owners. Also agree with the talk show host questioning the term "revered" when it comes to Selig.

Good point, gr1624, and I don't hold a thing against any Milwaukee sports fan that is at least thankful for Selig and his group bringing baseball back to that good town. I listened to my paw-in-law over the years talk about how it was as a native of Brooklyn to see the Dodgers leave in the 50s. Then I felt those same pangs when a team I grew up with as a kid, the Houston Oilers, was whisked away.

In the end, there are two photos of Selig that, for me at least, will always define his tenure as baseball's commissioner. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words.

I do not blame, nor have I ever blamed, Selig for the tie in the '02 All-Star Game. What I blame him for is not having the cojones to have called Torre and Brenly over and tell them to figure something out so that there wasn't a tie. Any man who simply throws his hands up and surrenders is a wuss...or French

Everyone picks/scratches/rubs their nose. But anyone with an ounce of class knows that you do NOT do it when giving testimony to Congress.

Sorry if I stirred up bad memories, jhack. Like I said, that tie never really bothered me and I never blamed Selig for it. After all, it's just a frickin' exhibition. What does bother me though is the result of that was to turn an exhibition into something 'meaningful' by giving the winning league home field in the Series. That decision I do blame on Selig.

As a huge Brewer fan 110% Agree. It is nice to have an owner who cares about winning and putting a good product on the field.

I understand what Selig has done for baseball in his tenure as commissioner, how he's grown the game throughout the world. But he's held the game back a lot too. If you want to give him a statue to honor him as an owner then fine, but I can safely say that there are many baseball people who deserve to be honored before him.

I think every other stadium should also erect a statue of Bud Selig. But the sole purpose WOULD be for people to urinate on it.
