Interesting to see how this plays out.

Kalshi say that they “should not be overseen by a patchwork of inconsistent state laws.”

That's actually a decent argument. If US states won't agree to respect each others licenses this is valid pushback and might result in a better regulatory ecosystem overall.

That said, I do think they are taking the Uber route of just daring states to try and stop them whilst ignoring existing laws.

Not quite following you. How are states not respecting each others licenses?

In some (most?) other countries if one state licenses a bookmaker then all states allow their citizens to use that book.

When we are talking about a 50 state country it's a nightmare to follow 50 different guidelines, regulators and fee/tax schemes. States should make a national agreement that books can choose just one state to be regulated by and all party states share some of the revenue.

I see what you're saying now. But isn't that the way it is now with sportsbooks like Caesars/DraftKings/FanDuel?

No. They have different licenses and rules for every state.

That's exactly my point. If these sportsbooks have different licenses in every state then Kalshi should as well.

That's the states position too. I do think It would be better for players and books if sportsbooks only needed one license though.

It looks like Iowa is going to be Filing a Lawsuit as well maybe, saw the local fishwrap say they may file charges here too

Kalshi charging fees up to here. They can afford good lawyers, they'll be fine.

On a more serious note, I think this is how Pinnacle lost the dominating position. They tried to do everything legally, and were made to comply and obtain licenses in every little state and territory, and that just becomes way too much overhead I'd imagine.

If the feds and state government want to tell me who I bet with they should be calling me and asking permission before sending my tax dollars to buy bombs for another country to fight a war. I didn't sign up for that. They should mind their own business and quit worrying about where I spend my money.
