Best record in football got another win last week in Cincy ... how did they do against the spread?

And the Giants themselves have done great ATS, underdogs snatching defeat from the grips of victory.

I don't think just getting eliminated is much of a factor in the NFL - to me that's fan mentality, I wouldn't buy too much into that. The players have an elevated new coach who is trying to build something (not a playoff run, necessarily) and they have their own careers to play for. If you doubled that spread, I'd double my bet on the Giants.

      I agree with this 100%.

When you are eliminated early in the NFL the tape matters more. Players playing for their careers.

Also, The line caught up to NE a couple weeks ago IMO.

        An interesting development.

1st year head coach (though not first TIME head coach) takes over a 4-win squad from 2024 ... now the team is ahead of everyone's schedule except Vrabel's.

Giants were getting 14 to the Lions last week and the Lions have three less wins than the Pats.

My take, and it's just my two-part take, once the word got out yesterday that Dart will clear concussion protocol and will likely start Monday night with Winston heading back to his backup role, the line hasn't moved off of 7.5

Both Winston and Dart split the starter reps earlier this afternoon. The Giants' internet and beat reporters say they both looked sharp. The line will probably close around 7.5 or 8 if Dart starts. If his health regresses in the next two days, and Wiston is pressed back into action, I think that line moves to 8.5 or 9. My Point being, the line makers believe Dart gives New York a greater chance of winning.

Part two of my take is that even though New England has ripped off nine consecutive wins, not many are overly impressed with the level of talent they are beating, and the way they've been winning.

I went into full-out nerd mode earlier, and just for shits and giggles, analyzed this nine-game heater the Pats are on,

For argument's sake, I'm giving New England a victory Monday night, making the win streak a perfect ten.

If you include the Giants' Monday night as their tenth victim, the Pats now have beat...

              Carolina
              Buffalo
              Saints
              Titans
              Browns
              Falcons
              Bucs
              Jets
              Falcons

Seven of the above teams rank in the bottom ten in defensive efficiency, and one of those teams, the Bengals, is one of this generation's worst defenses.

I don't think the Pats are getting disrespected with that 7.5 number, it's more of (IMO) a Jackson Dart returning thing.
That, and the Pats are whooping up (barely) on Marshmallows.

Look at these atrocious metrics (teams I highlighted in green)
Helen Keller and Ray Charles could pass on this bunch, eight days a week.

It'll be interesting to see which way the line moves on this game. Whichever way it moves, I'm going against it. lol

Thank you for the words; they're both noted and appreciated.

(When I was a teenager, my friends would play backyard football and such, and I'd stay at home behind my desk. eye glass protector in my shirt pocket, and taped-up glasses on my head, I'd play around with the Excel spreadsheets and PDF files..., never mind me, I like poking fun at myself from time to time, it helps me stay grounded...)

                    But I digress...
As expected, Jaxson Dart cleared the concussion protocol and was immediately named the starting QB Monday night.
The line ticked down from 7.5 to seven flat, where it currently sits.

Giants QB Jaxson Dart clears concussion protocol, paving way for start vs. Patriots

                    -The Athletic

New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart has cleared concussion protocol, the Giants announced Thursday. He’s expected to start Monday night’s game against the New England Patriots.

Dart has missed the previous two games due to a concussion he suffered in the Giants’ Week 10 loss to the Chicago Bears. Veteran backup Jameis Winston started those games, both losses, completing 37 of 65 passes for 567 yards, with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Winston also tallied one rushing and one receiving touchdown in those starts.

Dart returns to a 2-10 Giants team mired in a six-game losing streak. The Giants haven’t won since their Week 6 upset of the Philadelphia Eagles, as they recently became the first team to be officially eliminated from playoff contention. Perhaps the biggest storyline regarding Dart’s return is how the team will manage his aggressiveness as a runner. Dart has been examined for a concussion four times this year, including the preseason, before suffering a confirmed concussion against the Bears.

Under previous head coach Brian Daboll, who was fired after that loss to Chicago, Dart was used on designed runs more than any other QB in the league. Daboll typically encouraged the rookie’s bold running style, saying he trusted Dart to make the right decisions on the field.

Dart, meanwhile, has been mostly defiant in response to suggestions that he practice more self-preservation when running the ball.

“I’m going to play the game the way I want to play the game,” Dart said days before getting injured.

The unknown variable at play this week is interim head coach Mike Kafka. Even while Daboll was in town, Kafka was still calling the plays as the offensive coordinator, so it was at his direction that Dart was running keepers at the goal line at the end of blowout losses. However, reports surfaced after Daboll was fired that the team would encourage Dart to be more cautious when he returns to the field, so perhaps Kafka will also be more measured and take fewer chances with his young quarterback.

Dart has been around the facility the last few weeks, but hasn’t been able to talk with reporters while in protocol. When asked what he’s seen from the rookie, Winston said he was “locked” into the conversations like any regular week.

“I mean, last week, man, he was determined to play,” Winston said. “It’s just the NFL has a strict protocol, and that’s what happened. I was grateful, but at the same time, I felt for him because I know how much work he puts in, and I know how he prepares, and I just told him I had his back.”

While the Giants did not practice Thursday, the team released its first injury report of the week. A concerning note for Monday’s availability is that All-Pro DT Dexter Lawrence was listed as a projected nonparticipant after he aggravated his surgically repaired elbow last week. OLB Kayvon Thibodeaux (shoulder) and LB Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles (neck/knee) were also listed as nonparticipants.

The positive note for the Giants is they’ll finally have a bye week after Monday night’s game.

I think the Patriots - Giants games are always close. Not sure it will be a walk for Patriots. Giants have still some pride in them to not lay down and fight.

                        That's a good point, Pavy.

Giants and Patriots are 7-7 all-time.
The Patriots are 6-4 in the last 10.
Some of these games are epic.
