They toured Australia in 1980 for the first time and it was the first time I was allowed to go to a concert on my own.

It was Beatles level hysteria over them at the time down here. A girl in Ace Freeley makeup and costume treated me to my first french kiss.

The opening song Was Detroit Rock City.

Was my first major concert and remains #1 to this day.

I saw Kiss at the old Tiger Stadium in Detroit the summer of 1996. One of the best summers of my life. Alice In Chains and Sponge opened up for them. Stone Temple Pilots was supposed to be but Weiland was a mess… Layne Staley only performed a few more shows after this.

That summer I got my license, went to every concert I could afford in Detroit, learned a lot about girls, drank some beers, spent a lot of time on the lakes of Michigan, played some baseball and had a lot of fun doing teenage shit with a group of buddies I don’t see much anymore. What a time. That KISS show was the first big event of that summer. The fall came fast, the leaves changed and it got cold quick and I was back in the rinks of Michigan whipping ass playing Tier 1 hockey.

Where did the years go? RIP ACE.
