#3Well this is no shock. Now it is down to if the two sides can come to an agreement on how much of his contract they are willing to take on. Boston needs pitching and were fortunate he started to kill it after the slow start. After all of the back and forth over him playing 1st base you could tell this would be in the works if Boston could find a team willing to take his massive contract. Lord knows that pathetic Giants offense could use his bat.Comment -

Like yourself, I've been posting here for 14 years, and before that, I assisted Joe K. at the old Netsports website for eight years.
The point I'm trying to make is I bit the clickbait many a time in the past, and even now, anybody can fall for a perfectly crafted 'report' or 'article'
Last January I got sucked into a headline which read "Record snowfall in Las Vegas"
I was like "WTF"
Turns out the record snow fell in Las Vegas, New Mexico.
It would have been nice if the editor added 'NM' after Las Vegas in the headline.
Yeah, man, I got hoisted on my own petard on that one, and I know better. (At least I think I know better.)
However, the source in this case is MLB.com, and the news was verified by Ken Rosenthal.
That's enough credibility for me to post it; however, I find myself fact-checking constantly these days, and some of the so-called 'fake news' out there looks genuine, and like I said, I've been duped in the past, we all have.
I took several courses in content and creative writing a few years ago. One instructor summed it up best: she said, "The first rule in carpentry is measure twice and cut once." The same principle applies when reporting: get two (or more) credible sources, and post once.Comment -

#5The Giants are taking all of his contract. I'm sure that wasn't a small factor in this.Comment -

#6$313 million over 10 years. Red Sox are dumping an overprice contract on a player who no longer wants to be a team player (For the BoSox). I wish him and the Giants well, as the Red Sox continue their rebuild.Comment -

#7Jesus, another top player goes to the stacked NL West. The Giants fleeced the Red Sox here and the Sox did not get a great return in my opinion. Sure, the relationship was fractured and maybe that hurt their negotiating power but they should have received more in return. Devers is very clutch and drives in a lot of runs. I really hope to be proven wrong here as I can't stand the Giants but it looks to me like they made out like bandits here.Comment -

#9I think Boston is lucky to get what they got.

Fans up here NOT HAPPY. How does the saying go "For a bucket of baseballs". It boils down to John Henry and $$$. Dumbbells up here fill the stands and buy the overpriced food and apparel despite being one of if not the worst team in the league in the last 5 years.Comment -

#12After some reflection I'm thinking this is a good move for both teams.
The Giants want to win now and they got a great middle of the lineup hitter and they get to move their DH to 1B and upgrade their worst position in the process. The players they parted with have potential, but not much potential to help them this season.
Standing pat the Red Sox had virtually no shot at winning the World Series this year and with Devers' massive contract it could make it harder for them to be competitive 6-8 years down the line when he's over the hill and untradeable.
The Red Sox needed to either unload some of their highly touted prospects to try to win a WS now, or trade expensive veterans to try to win a WS 3-5 years from now. Of the two options punting on '25 seems like the smart move. If Aroldis Chapman is still on the team in August I would be shocked.
Just my opinion...👍 1Comment -
