The Big Ten has sent college conferences across America into a tizzy with its announcement that it will examine the possibility of expanding. Of course, the announcement was really a non-announceme…
This explains just about everything.
Don't know why they are adding Pittsburgh seeing how they are the 3rd best team we can get (Texas and ND won't join). I'm guessing this is nothing but an internet rumor from a Pittsburgh fan who would give his left nut to be in the Big Ten.
As for the Big East, they'll add either ECU, Memphis, or UCF and move on.

This is no rumor.
Rivals Radio talked about it all morning.
Mike and Mike on ESPN talked about it.
There is a tenative meeting between the Big 10 and Pitt officials scheduled for next week., this is going to happen pretty fast.
Now the Big 10 can have their championship football game.

Pitt will fit in there, I do not think football wise they will be a huge factor though.

You were saying? Big Ten source refutes Pitt expansion report
Erroneous reports such as this one from sports radio host Ben Maller have surfaced that claim that Pittsburgh is set to join an expanded Big Ten.
Apparently, the original source was a few student-athletes at Pitt who tweeted about a meeting during which Big Ten expansion was brought up -- or, more likely, not brought up.
Bottom line, a source at the conference reiterated to the Tribune on Monday that the Big Ten will adhere to the timetable it laid out in December: a 12-to-18 month period of analysis. The league will then determine whether it wants to expand and, if so, how many schools it will invite to the party.

So, they are just gonna leave the Big East and jump into the Big Ten in the middle of conference play?

I think Notre Dame makes the most sense, especially with them being an independent in football. Would make things much easier, and makes more sense geographically as well.

I am not sure what ND's big deal is about not wanting to join? Anyone know?

My guess is maybe money related or they like being able to schedule whatever games they want. That's just a guess though.

ND turned Big 10 invite down a while back, and continues to maintain they will not join. They want to stay independent so they do not have to split money with a conference - their popularity allows them to make a lot more money remaining independent.
Rumors I heard at Pitt were that the invite, if it was to be extended to Pitt (which is a big "if") it would be for Pitt to join the Big 10 for football only, and not basketball.

I love Pitt, and I think they would be a great fit in the Big 10. They need more teams that run the ball 45 times a game between the tackles.
