Don't wait on this the line will get worse: NHL: Washington -1.5 (+115) over Florida
Well fellas sometimes in life you gotta stick with your bread and butter. The likes of Kentucky and UCLA have been breaking our hearts in NCAA basketball. Meanwhile, in hockey we have won our last 3 bets giving goals each time to stay afloat, up 45 units in those bets combined.
So let's go back to the bread and butter.
Now normally, I would probably never give 1.5 goals in a hockey game for only a +115 price, practically even odds. This however, is just such a sweet spot that it is basically impossible to ignore.
On Humpday (the 27th) I explained to you how dominant the Caps have been, especially at home. Let's revisit that.
Tonight's game is in Washington. They are 19-3-3 at home. They have been especially scorching this month as they have now won 11 games in the month of January. Nine of them have been by 2 or more goals. They are now 7-0 at home in the month of January - with a ridiculous goals for/goals against ratio of 32-13.
Feel better about that price tag now? You should.
As always for hockey, let's look at special teams. The Caps feature the games most potent powerplay unit, lighting the lamp at league leading 26.1%. That's good enough for 1.4% better than anyone else in the NHL. Might seem like a small number to you, but rest assured, particulalry this deep in the season, it is significant. Florida's penalty killing Unit? Try a below NHL average 18th in the league at 80.5%.
Does a lot of this look familiar to you from my Caps/Ducks write up the other day? It should, because in many ways the Panthers are a very similar caliber team to the Ducks, except that they play a little better on the road, winning almost half their games. That means very little though.
The "haves" continue to beat up the "have nots" (though the Panthers are kind of up and coming, just a few years off in my opinion) here.
One big factor last time was that the Caps were coming off back to back games where it is documented they don't fare extremely well. We don't have to worry about that here as they didn't play last night and those legs will be strong and fresh out of the gate in yet another Caps blowout.
One thing to watch is that it is Friday night, and I expect this spread to actually get worse than the +115 it pays right now. People are looking for action and everyone either loves or hates Ovie and his antics.
Get on it early and be smiling while the rest of the boys continue to have their heart broken by college and pro hoops.
