SJ, what about those people who prefer to read a well-thought criticism than a mindless knob slobber of a post? The great minds of the Enlightenment used to cultivate associations with people who vehemently disagreed with their positions and regularly debated them to demonstrate the strength of their convictions. If men of great insight and character preferred educated discord to tacit agreement, aren't we missing something if we silence a minority, any minority, for the superficial appearance of unity?

Don't mistake silencing the minority with plain ole curtailing the bullcrap in Players Talk from those with an obvious and obsessive anti SBR agenda. They are welcome as well but they need to stay in the right forum which is the Private Forum.

John, serious question. Would you rather associate with people that shoot it to you straight even if it's sometimes a bit jaded like a Pavy, RougueScholar or even myself or someone who's agenda is to reflect what they feel you want most to hear?

Just because someone doesn't agree with EVERYTHING doesn't mean they hate EVERYTHING either. I realize SBR is your baby and while it may or may not reflect you as a person in some ways, doesn't mean every negative comment or accurance is aimed at you personally or even means that the negative outweighs the positives. I understand being your baby it couldn't help but sometimes hurt to see that not everyone is 100% happy.

Fair point John, but why isn't this in the private? Because it is not a post against you? This has nothing to do with gambling. To me Players Talk is more like a general forum where anything goes. Private Forum should be stuff not suitable to be viewed without a warning. Every site goes through this kind of argument and we should really just embrace it. This is why we keep coming back. We get in our own little world and think the forum means everything when in the real world it means very little.

Love this place though.

But whether you choose to look at it as a "clean-up operation" or censorship, you're still removing or marginalizing dissenting opinions for the sake of pro forma harmony. It's done both unilaterally and capriciously, which actually weakens your own arguments.

SBRJohn knows there are enough people out there that will stroke his ego and tell him that this place is great so he can censor those that may criticize SBR whether it be to try to better the forum or outright bashing. Without criticism and posters giving ideas this "empire" wouldn't be nearly as big as it is. SBR needs to remember where it came from and how it got here.
