    Total Disarray
That is the only way to describe my golf game right now. Two months ago I bought a brand new set of Titleist AP2's and loved them. While they aren't blades they still require quality ball striking. So on bad days scores will reflect poor ball striking.

So three weeks ago I added a set of 2010 model Cleveland CG-7's. A more forgiving iron for sure. However today the ball striking was so bad I wouldn't have made pure contact with a friggin shovel.

The swing is completely gone. I have always been a good iron player. I just always suffered from erratic driver play. I changed my swing with the driver and have been striking it better than I have in years. I can practically pick my spots with the driver now but the swing change has totally screwed up my irons.

I even did something today I honestly haven't done since I first started playing golf, I absolutely shanked a pitching wedge.

I have two days of golf this weekend for considerable money against three gys that were already better on average than I am and now I am in the midst of a hackfest.

This post was just me venting. Although I am sure some can relate to it because everyone that plays golf goes through times when it just gets away from them.

    Work on "the turn".

Whenever my game goes in the toilet its because I dont get a good turn with hips and shoulders. During winter players tend to sway and hit with their arms because it feels safer.

Try this, go to the range and put your feet totally together and hit your 8 iron at 80%. That drill will force you to turn.

Did you try putting your change in your left pocket or tee behind your left ear?

Obviously my previous post is meant to be a joke, but there was an element of truth in that scene from Tin Cup. When I play my best, I'm not thinking and getting in my own way.

The other option is the alignment of the new clubs is different. There may be nothing wrong with your swing, the contact point might just be different.

You are correct John. Unfortunately I don't joke when I say I am a fat fck and knees are shot. So my game is more all upper body anyways so the turn really was never there. This is part of the reason for the troubles right now. The knees are getting worse and I'm still about 5 years away from having them replaced.

You are spot on though about the sway. I am definately swaying. Also the drill you suggested is a good drill. I actually practiced today before my round which I never do and was hitting the ball well until we went out to play.

If I can keep the losses to $200 to $300 tomorrow it will be a friggin miracle. At least the driver and putter are working. If I can manage to hack it to the green I'll have a chance.

This is actually very, very good advice.

I played golf competitively in high school/college and an old school coach told our team that many people swing with their arms in the winter for fear of 'falling over'. I started becoming more conscience of making a turn in bad/cold/wet weather and started hitting the ball much further than I had previously when the weather turned.

Good luck, Wal, golf can be the most frustrating thing in the world when you don't play as well as you think you should- which is basically every time I play these days.

Don't forget to stretch before you hit the balls and eat some granola bars for energy.

Pavy, that's funny. I do stretch and I always put a few granola bars in my bag.
