#5It would be a completely inaccurate self-description but Ganchrow is right: people can call themselves whatever they want.

#8drop the truth? he makes countless threads with no relevance, admits he has lost $48k in 2 years and yet I am supposed to respect him. He didn't even know Mansion stopped dealing with the US until I told him so today.Originally posted by BatemanPatricklDrop it already. JJ never bothers or calls you out so keep clear of him.

#9I don't know why you dislike the guy but the mods will move all of the threads and you will eventually get banned. I noticed you had some good picks and would like to have you around. Either way, good luck.Originally posted by austintx05neverComment -

#13Just call yourself an investor and forget about the professional 'title'. I've never heard of a professional tv anchor or a professional welder. The term only has meaning when there is a clear difference with amateurs, such as in sports. Professional and amateur soccer players. The public pays to watch the pros.
In fields that are more public, such as gardening, we don't make the distinction between amateur and pro. My wife likes to garden, so she's a gardener. The guy with the pickup truck who mows all the lawns is also a gardener.
In the world of gambling it is different again. More often that not, it is the house that hands out the title of 'professional', and it isn't meant as a compliment. The casino wants amateurs, not pros.
And then there are the insecure gamblers, who, unlike athletes, can give themselves the title of professional, as if this somehow validates their gambling. The question is: if you're really a professional gambler, what is the advantage in that being public knowledge? Does it give you an edge? If there is a greater edge in not informing the house or other card players about your status, then don't be a pro. Just play like one.
(I'll add my personal belief, worth exactly two pennies. In sports betting you need twelve years to determine your level. Don't ask why. Just play them one at a time, and see how one year can differ from another.)Comment -

#14I'm guessing this is a muddled attempt to relate my avatar to the topic ???Originally posted by BatemanPatricklI noticed that there are a lot of old wannabe rock stars (guitar players).
Buried in there is a more-or-less apt comparison though. If I ever claimed to be a professional rock star then yes, I would be in the same category as posting forum dudes who pretend to be professional bettors but aren't.Comment -

Again I don't quite know where you are coming from with that comment. The last thing would have crossed my mind was that you might be a professional bettor.Comment -

#18If you beat the closing number you can call yourself a professional gambler period. You cannot lose beating the closing line but no one can do it daily or weekly or on a consistent basis.Comment -
