starting to get convinced that it is nearly impossible for a full time gambler to quit smoking cigs. It's fvckin hard, i've been trying and trying, ive "quit smoking" like everyday lol and it just doesn't work. I can't study games, matchups, lines, and be relaxed and successful while trying to quit these motherfvckers. I woke up today, smoked a j like usual and tried to do my games without a cig, i was determined to do it today. Nope, i stared at the screen while all my mind could think about was having a cig, there is no way in hell i can cap games at the same time, it just controls your mind. I think if you're a gambler you would have to take like a month off to do it. Maybe the first month of baseball season will be my best shot. Anyone out ther have any Tips or input on this?

#3Every gambler I know doesn't smoke. It is likely an age thing. I barely know 5 people that smoke. Under 30 not many smokersComment -

#7BurtRapp is right, smoking is the uncool thing for kids now. I am 34 and it was still the rebellious in thing to do when I was a teen. Now if you smoke no chick wants anything to do with you & the media & society frowns on it like you're a pedophile or something. I started when I was 18-19 & have been smoking ever since. I used to be heavy drinker & thought if I cut back on drinking I could quit smoking. Well, I completely quit drinking but smoke twice as much now! Watching games makes it even worse.Comment -

#11I have been nico free for 1 year and a day and you would have to live to be 200 to out gamble me.
I did prepare for a couple of months, warned my wife and kids, family and friends and also asked for their help. Then I used the patch. Start with the sledge hammer 28 **. Then after about 4 days go to the 21 ** for about 10 days. Then to the 14mg for another week.Comment -

#12So many factors why I wouldn't smoke. Cancer - Cost - Smell of Clothes/house - Opposite Sex not liking it - just to name a few. The one thing I can say is that I have never been one of these smoker haters. I have never told someone to stop smoking its none of my concern. Just a personal choice for meComment -

#13I actually decided to quit about 4 days ago....
On day 4 without a single smoke as I went with the cold turkey approach... VERY HARD TO DO WHEN SWEATING GAMES!
I swear to god, boys, having a smoke is ingrained in me. Every time I am driving, sweating a game, finish a meal, have a drink, etc. The first thing I think of is 'wow, a cig would taste sooo good right now'
Quitting is really all about breaking the habits and things you associate with smoking. I had an ulcer about 3 years ago and when I found out I quit cigs, booze, and about 3 drugs I was addicted to at the same thing. It was easy since I knew my health was suffering. This time, quitting only smokes, is WAY HARDER! I'm using niccorette gum, but I'm going nuts and am very irritable.Comment -

#14You are gonna get lock jaw chewing that gum. You need the 28 ** patch. You will not have any psycho-nick moments. Still the psychological addiction will be there and that will be painful. Also I used zanaflex or melatonin+jack daniels(not recommended but works) so I could sleep. Cause you need to take the patch off at night.Comment -

I've quit 3x for at least one year since I started smoking 14 years ago. I do tend to agree it is much easier to use some sort of pill/medication to offset the psychological affects. Chantix and Wellbutrion helped me in the past, but I felt as though they messed with my head too much to make it worthwhile...Comment -

#16I don't smoke and usually when I do it's when I'm drinking, now us hard core gambling guys can't live with out the powder.... I mean when you do 3 days at a poker table you need to do some yayo. Keeps you fresh and clean...... quiting that is far harder than smokes....... I mean of all the coke heads you know, how many haven't quit 2 or 3 times.....Comment -

#17There's no I want or should. There's only I did. If you really WANT to quit, you will - no patches, no gums, no ****ing pills.
I smoke 2(x20) packs a day, wake up every morning with a soar throat and start feeling real shitty late at night because I smoked too much and my room smells like an ashtray. I'm not preaching here mate, it's just something I had to learn the hard way. I'm trying to cut it down to 15 or 10 cigs/day with little sucess, so I guess it's either cancer a heart condition that's gonna make me REALLY WANT to quit. Maybe.."I have never seen a wild thing feel sorry for itself. A little bird will fall dead, frozen from a bough, without ever having felt sorry for itself."

#21I haven't smoked in 4 years, the key is to take it slow. I quit "cold turkey," but I slowed down first, from 2 packs a day to one, to half a pack, then the key step, 3 cigarettes a day spaced out accordingly. If you want to quit you have to really want to and have will power and you CAN do it. Good Luck, it will be the best thing you can do for yourself and you will fell the difference.Comment -

#22I know someone who is in the stop smoking business. She says there is one brand of cigarette that is the most addictive. That brand is Malboro. The rate of failure is dramatically higher with them. She thinks they add something to that blend which causes that effect.
I don't smoke and never will. Too many health risks. I have enough bad habits as it is.Comment -

#26I have cut down on cigs considerably by switching to loose tobacco, roll your own.
Saving a great deal of money as well. Was saving more but one of the first things Obama did was pass the tax on loose tobacco. Now "Pipe Tobacco" remains not as heavily taxed (and is still cost-wise where all loose tobacco use to be). Seriously though, from a pack a day Marlboros to perhaps 6-8 rollies a day and baccy doesn't have to be the "bum shit" Bugler, Tops....Kite.....
Theres actually some very exotic possibilities baccy-wise....were one to devote time to researching mixes, composing their own mix of various baccys.....
Chemical free some of the loose also. I can definitely tell the difference, breathing....and now smoking less.
Having to go through the whole process of rolling a cig makes one smoke less.
Having to just open a box and remove a cig is too easy.Comment -
