Attention seeking doesn't always have to come in the form of praise. Often times than not negative feedback serves the sufferer more than posative responses. There will generally always be more negatives to respond too, thus enabling the attention seeker to have far more opportunities to see himself in the spotlight.
While the responders intention were to inflict brutal honesty in an attempt to set the attention seeker straight, all they end up doing is creating even more false hope that the attention seeker craves.
Remember, attentiion seeking is a form of crying for help. Often times these people have very restricted and even uneventfull lives. They are unable to interact in normal acceptable ways. Many are awkward and are incapable of having normal relationships and far too many times this leads to a life of solitude.
This is why it is very difficult for normal everyday posters to know exactly what is the best solution in dealing with these attention seekers. Do we flame on them, thereby fueling their passions or do we ignore them, driving them even further into depressions and lives of complete isolation? Very slippery slope.Comment -
