Feds eye fall indictment on Bonds
    Lets hope they nail'um

NEW YORK (Ticker) -- The grand jury investigating Barry Bonds has been extended for another six months, the New York Daily News reported on its web site Saturday.

Citing anonymous sources familiar with the government's case, the newspaper reported the U.S. Attorney's office is confident it will have enough evidence to secure an indictment of the San Francisco Giants slugger this fall.

Bonds has 753 career homers, putting him within two of tying Hank Aaron's all-time mark.

"I think politically it would look terrible if they indicted him when he was one or two home runs away from breaking the record," one attorney with knowledge of the government's case told the newspaper. "I think they'll let him break the record but I'd be very surprised if they don't indict."

The grand jury in San Francisco is trying to determine if Bonds committed perjury when he testified in the BALCO steroids investigation. Bonds testified that he believed a clear substance and a cream, given to him by former personal trainer Greg Anderson, were flaxseed oil and arthritis balm.

Anderson spent three months in prison after pleading guilty to money laundering and steroids distribution in connection with BALCO. Anderson was ordered back to prison in August until he agrees to testify in the perjury probe.
