It will be announced this afternoon barring something crazy. He has a good bloodline, has a law degree, has NFL experience, was Saban's recruiting coordinator at LSU. He's about the best they could do at the time and he's gonna keep the 6 quality staff members they already have. Not a big splash but very solid. They made a late run for Lovie Smith.

Did the Lovie Smith talks advance far? Beside base speculation based on prior interest, I've heard nothing about this here in Chicago?

It looks weak on the surface. But this is a Dooley. Great bloodline who will exceed his Dad.

There was discussion but it boiled down to Lovie wanting to stay in the NFL and his contract buy-out was too much.

It always comes down to money, doesn't it?

He's kind of a dead man walking here in Chicago and is having a good deal of trouble filling his open coordinator positions as a result. He would have been an interesting fit in the college level. Not a good game day manager, but players seem to love him and I can imagine him being a really good recruiter. A quiet, well spoken, God fearing man sitting in living rooms telling parents of black players "I will take care of your son" would be powerful.

I'm not so sure...He was no higher than 5th or so on their wish list. It honestly seems more desperate than anything else.

He's 17-20 in three years at La. Tech which certainly isn't setting the world on fire.

He hasn't shown he can run a big time program. No offense to La. Tech, but it's not SEC big time.

He's HAVING to keep members of the current UT staff becuase Kiffin got them three year contracts and UT isn't going to eat all that money to can them. So, Dooley is stuck with them.

You can spin it anyway you want but their AD comes off looking like a major buffoon for having such a ridiculously low buy out of 800K for Kiffin in the first year.

The proof, of course, will be in the pudding, but right now I don't think this one of the finer moments in UT history...
