    Everyones always...........
......talking about how family and friends re-act when you mention your a gambler. Funny looks, not understanding maybe offering for you to seek help. Maybe this is true but what about when you tell them about your friends on a posting site? Yeah, try telling a friend, "the other day on my site this poster".......blah blah blah. Your friend or loved one will insatntly think you're nuts. people can accept gambling a hell of a lot easier than the fact you spend hours at a time posting on an internet forum.

Oh sure, they can Tweet 24/7 but to actually post, on a forum, it's like taboo or something. How is posting anymore lame than texting, tweeting or facebooking?

Maybe it's just me but the people I know don't seem to even understand what an internet posting forum is. I make reference to them once in awhile and am frequently asked to explain - which I try to do - but I sense the person I am talking to does not come away clear.

"It's a site which is kind of like a chat room but functions more like a big group e-mail."

Maybe I need to work on my definition.

      Good post.

Answer: Because the social networking/texting is done by everyone, and is therefore more socially acceptable. People are also interacting with people they know using these forms. When you tell people you participate in an online forum, they know you're talking with a a varied group of people that they do not know. They wonder why you would talk to strangers as opposed to people you interact with in real life.

Good post Wally. The difference is here we can talk about our tough losses and great wins and we all understand and on social sites people have to be real and cant mention there true secrets like gambling. No one i know has any clue about my SBR life.

Syndicate, not really. I like to ask questions when they come to mind and get feedback from others. I also dabble in psycho analyzing and responses to various questions give insight into the people I asociate with. Some people deal in only facts and while that is cool I prefer to deal with things that are opinion based. Facts are often times just what people have learned but opinions reveal what a person feels and how they think.

Wal, i understand exactly what you mean.. I try to tell my friends about stories from SBR and they just look at me as if i were speaking a new language.. I have convinced a few of my friends to even join this site, but many just think i'm crazy.. SBR posters are like another set of friends for me.. I check in more to see whats new with posters at SBR than i do with my real friends.. I don't talk to them everyday.. But, i do log into SBR everyday.. Cheers to all my poster friends at SBR..

I love the people who talk on the phone for 2 hours but can't fathom talking on the internet for 30 minutes. I can get the information I need from hundreds of people in just a few minutes. Or I can get on the phone, listen to 1 person I know & they have absolutely no information I want, much less need!

People know I gamble, that is not a big deal. When I say, this "forum I post on..." they look at me like I have three heads. I guess it is a weird to them to be a member of a non-traditional functioning society.

Cougar, a friend of mine just came down with that and almost died. He is fine, but it is weird b/c before that I had no idea the fever existed.

Posting on a gambling forum is much more accepted than betting on sports with bookies.

No one gives a fuk if you write on a forum but do give a fuk if your gambling with seedy people and losing everything.

Boner, I actually don't have Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, but I hear it is horrible. I really like your name by the way. I think because it reminds me of two things:

                                  1. An erection
                                  2. The Growing Pains character, Richard "Boner" Stabone

                                    Wal,

I know someone took a shot at you in another thread and suggested you spend way too much time and you should be working. You defended yourself by saying you were caught up in your work and you had extra time...yada yada yada. Look, here it is. Satisfaction and fulfillment in life is where you find it. A few weeks ago someone posted a thread that got a lot of play about whether or not he should attend a Christmas family gathering. That is the "real world" and he wasn't even sure he wanted to be a part of it!

Wal, I will tell you this. Whatever inspires, intrigues, or invigorates you is real and it is worth pursuing. This forum is truly a bastion of diversity, yet we all have one thing in common. We like to gamble on sports. Although most men will pretend to know the spread on a football game, the fact is, most don't know their ass from their elbow. We live in a world of squares. The difference is they talk on Monday about all the money they would've wagered on Sunday. We talk on Monday about all the money we did wager on Sunday! Whatever our reasons for gambling are, we walk the walk, where most men only talk the talk. Does that make us better than them? You're damn right it does! We've go the balls they only wish they had.

Wal, at SBR you are with kindred spirits. You can't find men like us in your 9-5 job. They're not your cousins or your brothers sitting around the Thanksgiving table. They don't understand. But you know what? We do. Because we fight these battles and we live and die with the point spreads. While the rest of the world eats salad, we dine on steak. It costs more but we don't care because we know we can always make more money. Some how, some way. We make mistakes but we lick our wounds and we fight again while others live in fear of making those same mistakes so they shall not suffer those same wounds. So take heart Wal. This is the real world and you posting here does not make you oblivious to reality. This is your reality and we are your friends.
