#61. He's not making $28 million, even though everyone continues to throw around that number without a clue what they are talking about.
2. He's been pitching for two months and has been very good recently. It's like any other pitcher pitching in April, some struggles from time to time are natural. But all in all, he's progressing nicely.
3. Tampa has always given him trouble, but he still only gave up 5 hits on a night when he clearly didn't have his best stuff.
4. His last two starts he's given up 9 total baserunners in 16 innings. Opponents are hitting .230 against him this season.
5. He's getting very little run support, he could easily be 5-1, but he's been lined up against aces like Kazmir, Lackey, and Bedard, and Oliver Perez had the game of his life to beat him.
Is he worth a mil a start? Of course not. But the Yankees are paying Pavano 10 mil, Pettite 16 mil, and Mussina 11 mil (and their best pitcher, Wang, less than 500 thousand. God that's ****ed up.), so he isn't a bad value in relative terms.Comment -

#8It's a $28 million pro-rata deal. He is being paid the equivalent of $28 million a year. I'm sure you'll agree that when you are comparing salaries amongst players, it's a lot easier to speak in terms of pro-rata when players are not playing the full season.Originally posted by Razz1. You're missing the point. He's getting paid $28 million a year. He's getting paid more than A-Rod. For that amount of money, you can't always expect the highest paid player to always be in the top of any category because things just don't work like that. But do you really think that a $28 million a year pitcher should be "progressing nicely"? He should be pitching out of his skin from the word go.Originally posted by Razz2. 5 hits and 5 runs. Giving away 5 hits is fine if you don't let them score. Giving away 5 hits and let them all score isn't fine. It's not about the baserunners allowed - it about how many you let score.Originally posted by Razz3. Tampa has always given him trouble, but he still only gave up 5 hits on a night when he clearly didn't have his best stuff.
Come on - now you're picking out selective stats to back up your argument. You mean his last two starts not including tonight. It's fine and dandy quoting that stat but were you aware he let 9 people on base in 5.1 innings tonight?Originally posted by Razz4. Ignore the win/loss and look at his ERA. It's 4.20. That's costing $28 million a year.Originally posted by Razz5. He's getting very little run support, he could easily be 5-1, but he's been lined up against aces like Kazmir, Lackey, and Bedard, and Oliver Perez had the game of his life to beat him.
He has got a 2-4 record. His ERA is 4.20. And a total of 2 wins in his 7 starts. Yeah, $28 million seems good value.Originally posted by RazzIs he worth a mil a start? Of course not. #13Clemens real value might be putting people in seats. However that is never an issue in yankee standium.
He's done as a premiere pitcher, and I guess the money got the better of his judgement this time.Comment -

#16Clemens is all about money and not winning, he will pitch next year to for a team and con them into another big contract.
He is greedy and money hungry period or he would not be pitching.Comment
