    I don't get it

You win the coin toss, you take the ball and you go down and you score first! No question about it. Fvcking morons.

Would you defer if you played the NFL overtime rules and you won the coin toss? No

How did deferring work for Georgia Tech and for TCU?

Traditionally works better giving the team at halftime a chance to gain early momentum when it counts.

NFL overtime whoever scores first wins. Apples to oranges here.

somtimes coaches would rather get the choose of direction, depending on weather/wind ect. number of different factors/strategies for coaching and team types come into play here

I'd say getting it first in the second half works out better. When you start out 0-0, you really just play a run of the mill game plan. But after a halftime to get ready for the second half, you know what you will want to come out smoking with depending on how much you are up or down by.

I remember playing football in high school and the adrenaline one gets just before kick-off. I want the ball first each and every time. Never once did we consider letting the other guys go on offense first. Never.
