Since everyone seems to have turned over a new leaf in 2010 and we are all about not offending each other I have a list of words that I would like to see disallowed on this forum. This would promote peace and harmony for all.
I organized the list alphabetically in order to not offend those with OCD. These are a few of the most important words that need to be immediately removed and I'm sure I'll think of others.
Thanks in advance for your support
- "Chalk" - commonly used to refer to the favorite in sports betting. As we all know, chalk is mostly white. Using this word to describe the team that is supposed to win implies that white is better and could therefore be misconstrued as the belief that the white race is better.
- "Handicap" - used to describe the process of studying sides in a sporting contest in order to attempt to predict the winner. This one goes without saying. It is very offensive to all people with disabilities and seems to imply that you can predict which disability is better than another one. This needs to be the first one to be banned immediately before you start violating the Americans with Disabilities Act.
- "Hook" - commonly used to refer to a half-point in sports betting. Using the phrase "beat by the hook" or "buy the hook" could outrage people with a prosthetic hand as they often look like hooks. See also "Handicap"
- "Public" or "Squares" - used to describe unsophisticated sports bettors who wager with no knowledge just to make the event more exciting. Banning of this word also needs to be enforced immediately as it could lead to the belief that everyone is NOT the unique snowflake they think they are and that there may actually be a few degenerate gamblers on the site. It is very important that all SBR members feel they are not placed in this category.
- "Underdog" or "dog" - commonly used to refer to a team or participant who is not expected to win. Use of this derogatory term suggests that dogs are inferior. This is offensive to all the canine lovers on the forum and may lead to them calling the ASPCA with complaints that SBR is promoting animal abuse.
- "Wood" - used to describe the price of a heavy favorite, as in the term "laying the wood". Use of this phrase could outrage any environmentalists who visit SBR by having them believe the staff endorses deforestation or clear-cutting.
