    TeXAS HOLDEM POKER in VEGAS
I will be going to Vegas early March with a couple friends and I was wondering how the Texas Hold Em games are out there. I havent been to Vegas in 15 years back before the poker craze. Back in those day they didnt even have Texas Hold Em in the casinos, so now I am wondering

Do pretty much all the Casinos on the strpir have Texas Hold Em rooms ?

Are these limit games, and what are typical limits ? I am a small fish playing 5/10 or 10/20 games, not about to get into no 25/50 or 50/100 games. I go on stupid tilt enough playing a 5/10 game, you dont want to see me when some guy plays 2/7 off suit and bets my top two pair on the river ( then gloats about it for 30 minutes ) if its a 50/100 game.

Are there some strip casinos that dont even have texas hold em ?

I am planning to go up, grab a cheap $25a room night ( so thats less than $10 each ) per night, stay 3 days, do a lot of looking around since its changed so much, spend the evening in the sportsbooks as it will be conference tourney week, play a lot of texas hold em in the daytime, and plan to play absoultely no blackjack, roulette, 3 card poker or any other house davntage table game.

So anyway, what do you know about vages and texas hold em games ? Where are the best games?

    TIA

nobs....there is plenty of poker to be found at just about every casino.

The pros grind the shit out of the tourists more so than AC.

When I was out in the fall----I just played the daily 32 buyin NL tourneys. They were fun, took up time---and I was able to hit the cash a few times for a couple of bucks---enough to pay for some golf.

      Thanks Martin.

I have tried the NL tournaments around here, but its a very different style of play than limit of course, and I dont have skill at that yet. I won the tournament once for $550 I think itb was, but thats just because I was getting unreal suck outs all night.

I may try a tournament or two in Vegas, just hoping I can find some small limit games, preferably 5/10 where I can usually limit my losses to $200 or so if I am having a bad day, but can still when some nice coin if its a good day.

Cant wait to see the sportsbooks also, when I went 15 years ago, that was one of the things that most impressed me. Having only seen my locals dumpy joint, the MGM sportsbook was something to behold.

2 months away and I cant wait.

If you are playing limit, 5-10 or 10-20, you will want to go with the bigger rooms like Ceasars, Bellagio, Wynn, or Aria. If you want to play 1-2 NL or 2-5 NL, you can go just about anywhere, and I'd stay with a smaller casino for no limit games.

By the way, a great off-strip property is the Orleans, with a really nice poker room and sportsbook, plus the all-important cheap rooms and decent food. If you insist on staying on the strip, I really like Ballys because of its location and nice rooms.

          The MGM sportsbook is awesome.

Are you going during march madness?

          That would be awesome.

I was there on a football weekend and it was incredible

Some of the smaller casinos have 1-2 tables too. A lot of noobs (no pun intended) play at those tables and they are EASY to win. I turned 60 to 500 in a matter of hours at the 1-2 at Bills Gambling Hall and Saloon, which is located across from Bellagio, between Ballys and Flamingo I believe, check it out to get your bearings right when you get there. Also the place I stayed at (Planet Hollywood) had a lot of good tourneys. Good Luck man.

wow 1-2 and 2-5 games. That might even be better. I didnt know they had games that low. I know there will be a lot of 2 7 off suit suck outs in a 1 2 game but that also makes it easier to win as you want a game where people play crap hands. Thanks, I may try to play some 2-5 then. Will check out the Orleans, and I know I want to get into a lot of the casinos sportsbooks.

Thanks man. Yeah I think I will try the smaller limit tables where I can just imagine everyone will play everything. Sure, you will get sucked out on sometimes, but long run easy to win against someone playing bad cards.

most places dont have 5 - 10 limit. 4-8 and 8-16 would be more likely. not many people play limit, nl is more popular. the mirage used to have a 5-10

I read a review that said Orleans had a BUNCH of good players in it playing on the daily and to stay away. So I did when I went. Just a word of advice.

Bellagio, Wynn, Venetian, Caesars, or Aria are your best bets for a decent limit game. Otherwise, you're usually looking at 2/4 or 3/6 limit games. 1/2 NL games are at every casino with a poker room.

The Orleans is a locals casino. Most players there are rocks and old as dirt. I wouldn't recommend playing there unless you play in a tourney.

I dont understand when you say 1/2 NL ?

So if I have $300 on the table, NL means I can bet $300 right ?

I just dont think I would like a NL game unless I am only keeping like $30-$40 on the table, just not trying to get bullied out of hands and even with pocket aces I seem to lose half the time.

Yea, you can bet 300 at 1-2 NL, everyone will fold but you can do it. Most will not have 300 at the 1-2 unless they won it.

In the Monte Carlo there ia brewpub with tons of micro beers on tap and tons of TVs with all the games on. Can put the bets in at the sportsbook not far away in the casino and slide into the brewpub and watch the games.

If you know how to play, go to Ceasers. There are a lot of people who don't know how to play, but have money and are staying at that hotel. I always win in the long run at that casino.... was just there for new years. Lots of people who are playing just play, and deep down they are okay with losing.

Also, the sportsbook room is right next to it. So you can go place a bet anytime you want when your on the poker table.

Stayed there about 5 years back when I went to Vegas...it was kinda fun because it was different and I actually enjoyed playing poker with the old locals. Everyone seemed to know each other and it fun to shoot the shit with them late night and just listen to their stories. I actually did alright too, enough that it paid for my entire trip for 4 days.
