1 us fluid ounce is 29.57 mL I UK fluid ounce is 28.4 mL. I don't believe there is such a thing as a "standard" shot, some bars use 1 oz some use 1.25 and some use 1.5 oz.... but your pretty much covered knowing what 1 is.....

A standard shot is 1.5oz of 80-90 proof liqueur because this has the same amount of alcohol as a 12oz beer or a 4oz wine. Of course a standard is only as "good" as those keeping it so like you said it will vary from place to place.
