Can you please unlock my PM files? It is long past the Dec 27 purgatory date.
Thanks,

Jelly, You're the reason my PMs have been turned off.
As you recall, my first note said I wasn't interested and you kept at it, so I tried to go off-line to explain and then Willie Bee has to do his Hammer of Thor sh*t.
So, out in the clear: I don't program for anyone in sports. If I did, you seriously couldn't afford me.
To Willie Bee: keep my PMs locked up. That way I won't be tempted to explain things offline to these clowns.

I am fighting the urge to make the obvious smartass remark about thinking here. But Dad is around.

It wasn't anything personal. Just my nature to be a smartass at times.

Willie Bee is not fired. He banned my sister in law the other day for creating a ghost of me.

That's just it, I'm NOT selling anything. However, Willie Bee "thinks" I am.
I'm pretty much like everyone else, trying to get in personal contact to swap data or techniques. SBR, for some reason, is against this and they keep restricting my PMs.
Now that I think on it, I'm don't need PMs as I seem to be stepping on their "rules" and have them taken away anyway. So I'll just post what I'm thinking out in the open.

Actually you can't. I will not sell my techniques. Unlike pretty much everyone here, I'm not a gambler, but a forecasting scientist working a sports angle. If you think you can get some young buck to work this stuff, have at it. Fortunately, this stuff is hard enough that it cannot be learned in a few years. Classical statistics courses don't cover the right material, forecast modeling is very difficult to do correctly for sports, and to boot there are no courses or books on it so you have to learn by OJT. Databasing is another problem as gathering and checking data is time consuming. And then you've got to be very patient while you try out a lot of different things to see if they work. I cannot tell you how many "sports modelers" I've seen come and go over the last 20+ years.
Lets sum it up, you will fail in sports modeling if:
1. You have the fever (need action).
2. Haven't the relevant statistical/probability/forecasting background.
3. Are a poor programmer, or even only a fair programmer.
4. Are not meticulous in your error checking (actually this is really part of point 3).
5. Are not very patient and willing to try numerous methods, realizing it may well take years to show results.
6. Cannot manage your BR, given you've found a decent methodology.
