There are a few really nice +EV plays on the board tonight, but I will start off with the most obvious one here. Cleveland State getting 17 points here is just way too many points in this spot. Now when you look at these records, you might be inclined to lay the points but that would be a mistake.
Kansas State is coming in with an 11-1 record while Cleveland State is only 4-9. K State is ranked # 11 or #12 in the nation, but believe me this team is madly overrated. While they have racked up an 11-1 record playing crap teams, they have not been beating teams by anything close to this spread.
Kansas State is coming off a 14 point victory at home against Arkansas Pine Bluff. So how can they be 17 tonight. I promise this Cleveland State team is way better than that 0-11 Ark Pine Bluff team that Kansas State couldnt beat by 17. In fact, after the first 2 games of the year when K State was playing high school teams, they havent beaten anyone by more than 17 points all year long.
Another thing -- Cleveland State has not lost by 17 points to any team all year long except Kentucky. Kansas State is no where near on the level of Kentucky.
Kansas State has also padded their record with a 10 point win over Boston University, and a 13 point win over a horrendous IUPUI team, and a 7 point win over FSHU which I am not even sure who that is. All those amazing wins were at home too. Yeah this really looks like the #11 team in the nation.
Kansas State hasnt beaten a real good team all year long. Their best win was against an 8-4 Alabama team and after that, they really dont have 1 even good win. This K State team has been playing shit teams all year long and winning by 5-10 points. They lost by double digits to Mississippi who isnt even that good.
Now you look at Cleveland State and they are only 4-9 but this is a decent 4-9 team. Like I said, they havent lost by 17 points to any team all year long except Kentucky who beat them by 24. I think Kentucky is easily 7 points better than Kansas State.
Cleveland State's losses have come against better teams than K States wins have been against. The Vikings have lost to Kentucky, a 9-4 Detroit team, a 9-4 Wright State team, a 7-4 Virginia team, a 6-5 St Bonnies team, a 10-0 West Virginia team who beat then by 2 points, a 10-2 Ohio State team who beat them by 13 at Columbus.
On the win side of the ledger, Cleveland State has won by 14, 25, 15, and 52 points. So to me, this is a much better team than their 4-9 record indicates. They have killed the inferior opponents they have faced, and they have played a lot of good teams really close. I think the 24 points loss to Kentucky is a decent showing even.
Cleveland State with 3 guards brings scoring from Norris Cole at 16 a game, Trevor Hoffman, and Jeremy Montgomery all averaging double digits. I think this team matches up well with Kansas State and I feel very very very strongly that the Vikings are going to give Kansas State all it can handle tonight.
