I had an opportunity to grab team A (opened at) -104 and as it got close to the start of the game team B was +108.
How much would I have to wager to secure a profit?
what do you mean??
if you bet 1000$ on team A at -104, then you'd bet 980 on team B (+108) to guarantee yourself 20$.. is this what you mean??

If you had $1000 on team A (-104), you would want to put $943 on Team B to secure a profit of $18.50

what you did was have him risking 1k at -104.. in North America, we bet to win 1k, so he risked 1040, that's why he has to bet 980, not 943, to secure a 20$ profit.

Yes, I was asking about locking in a profit.
At $20 per $1000 I'm not very interested, first off, getting a number that gives an opportunity to do this isn't easy and tying up my balance at different books isn't appealing either, I thank you for the responses though.

Yes, I got Pitt at -104 when it opened at Pinny and now all the money coming in is on the Pens.
I can now get Buff +105 at Phoenix or +107 at Matchbook.

It´s the same thing!
Bet on team B would be 94.3% of the amount bet on team A.
edit. Had no intention of contradicting you Nicky, I didn´t even see your post before I made mine.

Not the same thing.
I'd rather bet the $1K on Pitt and cheer it home.
Watching an entire game to make $20 doesn't do it for me.

I like my original wager and am not afraid of losing.
(Pitt was -232 against Toronto last game and they lost, now they play an offensively challenged Sabres team and the line is much more realistic).

Come on Nicky, that was too easy. The fact that I can count was a giveaway!
I am British.

Looked like a good decision for most of the game.
From 3-0 to 3-4 kinda stinks.
