You can fix it yourself if yout the electronic type. You need to put thermal grease on the CPU. The CPU doesn't have effective heatsink. That's what causes the ROG. You might be able to find someone local to fix it as well.Comment -

Just go on xbox.com and fill out the form. They will email you a shipping label to print out, put the sumbich in a box and take to UPS. Then they will send you a refurbished one. I've had 3 xboxes sent back.Comment -

If you are out of the initial three year warranty period, you can still receive console repair service from Microsoft for three flashing red lights or E74 for a fee.

After my 360 shat the bed just after the 12 month warranty at the start of the year, it was consigned to it's place in the cupboard. After growing tired of the DSi, I bought a PS3 last month.
Saw this thread earlier, made me go to wikipedia to check on the fault and I found that the fault was an E74 which, since April, came under the 3 year warranty.
