Most overrated coach of all time that became a legend,Herb Brooks hands down!
If Herb Brooks was a race horse he would have been in the lead by 30 lengths at the Kentucky Derby the first half mile of the race and would have finished the race in last place 30 lengths behind.

He built his legend in college by being able to bully and slave drive kids who worshiped and feared him and he got away with it because of the short season in college hockey where they only play two games on the weekend.

If Brooks were a baseball manager his starting pitching would be dead before the all star break from overuse.Herb would have been putting in his ace starter as a reliever and then if the guy complained that his arm was sore the next time out he would have told him to suck it up.

He was old school just like my idiot high school football coach from 75-77 where it would be 100 degrees out with 95% humidity for full pad two a days and he would not allow water breaks and made you eat salt pills claiming that was better than hydration. In the shower after practice kids would be putting their mouths up to the nozzles. He would fill up with not even cold water an old brown gallon glass A&W root beer bottle with white athletic tape around it for 40 plus guys and when it ran out there was no filling it.I remember the water being actually hot.Tell me there weren't a few guys getting sick with coodies and germs on that one.Guys were puking all the time, fainting and discovering that they had asthma and epilepsi they didn't know about all because of this jerk coach.Physically we had the best team in the conference but we always finsihed 3rd because of the coach being an idiot.

So anyway,Brooks was the same kind of coach and when he got to the NHL he found out guys weren't going to take his crap over 80 games plus the playoffs which he wouldn't make because by then the players were dead.

Herb Brooks can thank the gullible looking for a false hero in turbulent times public and Al Michaels for turning him into an undeserving hero legend that lucked out.Herb and his University of Minnesota hockey cronies on a golf weekend had a few drinks at a bar up the street from me and it was the last people he talked to and the next morning driving home he got in the accident that killed him.
