I think your talking about Strength of Schedule more than anything else. And there are ways to evaluate that. Certain conf. certainly are tougher and coming out of that conference "should" make you a better team. However some teams play down to their level of competition and that is never a good thing. By Pedigree I thought you meant teams that traditionally have a strong program and are contenders year after year (e.g. Florida). And that happens strictly by strong programs getting the best recruits.
