You know , you can teach an old dog a new trick

I suppose this is no secret but coffee is better when brewed through a micro wire mesh basket instead of those damn paper things. Something to do with the oil from the beans.

This maker has a wire basket , way better coffee

No way. Paper is the superior product. The mesh baskets get a residue that flavors the coffee. Why do you think coffee shops continue to use paper despite the cost savings from a basket?

Drip coffeemakers, like those we tested in our latest report on these appliances, distribute water to the grounds gently enough so that the cafestol and kahweol pass through only in negligible amounts whether you use a paper or a metal filter. The same goes for instant coffee and coffee brewed in a traditional percolator.
