    Off To Meet My Bookmaker
Tuesday boys so you even up with your man in Newark. I lost this week $2300 so I pay him. Man I cannot stand it when I have to count it out for him and he grins like a prick and all I get is a free breakfast out of it and he says "Get Em next week Mario"

Tuesday meeting is actually at a Diner and not a book store as we know owner as he is a bettor so its all good.

We bull shit and laugh too and then usually go to the track but I cannot today as I have a few other errands to run.

Is anyone else paying their man today or are you getting paid??

    Be back later

Tough week Coach, I thought you had a winner in that St. Louy game but came up a run short.

Just goes to show that even the pros get run over by a Mac truck every once in a while. Unlike me who feel the pain of every one of those lost $2300s the real pros play with a smile.

To a confused Brit, can you give a rundown of the reasons why you meet your bookie in a diner or a bookshop.

Seems like youre dealing with the freakin' Masons here - i'm waiting for the "well I met him in a cemetary at midnight, handed over the $2000 and then we sacrificed a virgin. Then we went to Wendy's for a coffee" story.

In USA discretion is a must so you have to hide it. In USA booking is illegal unlike Euro Countries.

Betting with bookmakers here in the states is shady and not accepted so you have to be discreet.

In bookshops people just assume your looking for books and not meeting our man, and sometimes you know if I have a big hit the book brings in a briefcase full of cash so you have to be creative and try to find ways to make transactions look legit and business like.

So many ways to settle up with your book it is not even funny,

Danny we do not think that way here in my group. We start from scratch and do not chase.

Every week is a new week and we just try to grind it back up and get back a small percentage of our loses.

Most locals do not take baseball because of fear of getting beat. Your average guy does not bet baseball

Secondly a lucky parlay can not a local out

jjgold maybe your luck will turn around come football season. That is why I don't even mess with baseball as a general rule.

Man, I'm scared to leave Vegas because of the uncertainty of online wagering. I win, I drive 3 or 4 minutes and collect.

I just wish they'd go to -107 odds instead of the "industry standard" of -110

                                                  JJ -

Most bookmakers are easy to jerk around. They talk the talk, but they don't use muscle as often as they used to - that's what got many of the old school boys in the can.

next time you drop 2300, offer to pay 1/2, and make a plan for the rest. He'll probably agree, as long as you're a typical player.

A legendary bookmaker once told me "All losing players will eventually stiff you - they keep playing until they lose everything they have". He's probably a bit tighter with credit than your local, however.
